Just wondering today, since they can live up 30+ years, who has the oldest on TRP?

Mine's 6 months... can you beat that? :p

Urrgh??? Damn I never read the caresheet - just googled for royal lifespan. If I'd realised I'd have said the same as you - what do they think the poor little devils are? Frogs??

Goodness me, my snakes are going to outlive me.

In fact 48 years in captivity after being captured as an adult! WOW!!!

Read the bit on 'longevity' - there's a royal alleged to have been 48 years old when it died in Philadelphia zoo!

Lol - at that rate some of our royals will be qualifying for bus passes some day ...

oooh yes, i'd love to hear about some royals in 'retirement' haha... maybe they go to a nice old snakeys home... where the rats are nice and soft for their false teeth!

Interesting topic !! i've owned Blitz for 8 month, but i know the my cousin (in Czech) own a royal since i was a kid, let say 20 years ago.

So far the biggest RP I've seen online is Brian Gundy's which is about 20 years old.

Given that his 20 year old ways in at 5000, and that they never stop growing, I wonder if in actual fact they can get much bigger than we think, just no one has owned one long enough to find out?

i can only guess at the age of my oldest, sully. i bought him as an adult 7yrs ago so around 10 11 ish
Kelfezond Posted - 05/12/2011 : 12:17:04
I estimate Scar at about 15 years old but since he was wild caught I can't make an accurate guess. We know he was adult when he was caught and we know he's been in captivity for 11 years now :)

Mine certainly isn't the oldest, he's only about 9 months. Sounds funny thinking about a snake in its 'teens' lol.

You know I've been thinking that. The majority of us seem to have either 2010 or 2011 royals, with a sprinkling of people who've been at it a bit longer. I got my first and youngest royal, Shahi, in 2010; the others are secondhand adults.

I wonder if it's that a lot of people with a new royal come on to the forum for guidance, as I did, and then eventually drift away once they find what they need ...

I think herp keeping IS a comparatively new hobby (sorry - amendment, it isn't a NEW hobby, it's the boom in popularity of the hobby that's 'new.') though, although about 13 years ago when I moved here, the people next door were looking after a young royal python. She'll be in her teens now.

That's really interesting Bats, it suggests that either there are a bunch of people with old snakes that don't come on here or it means that keeping Royals as a hobby only started off in the last 20 odd years. Primarily my reasons for asking.

I think on here it has to be Margwar who has a snake in its teens - and Kelf's Scar is teenage too. Don't know who's the oldest there.

My eldest is Surahi, an '06, though I've only had her a year.
