Ok I've done a quick search before asking this, so apologies for the dumb question 
Basically, I like to provide any pet with conditions which mimic it natural habitat as closely as is feasible (hence having a heat lamp set to turn on / off as per daylight hours, etc), so after reading up a bit about a Royal Pythons natural environment;
"Ball pythons prefer grasslands, savannas and sparsely wooded areas."
This got me wondering - has anyone put a grass patch in their vivarium??
My initial thoughts were to buy a shallow seed tray (about half inch deep) approx 1/3rd the size of the vivarium, grow some grass from seed, and place it inside the vivarium surrounded with substrate, with the normal hides and decoraritons place on and around the grass patch.
Immediately I think humidity could be an issue, placing damp soil in a hot vivarium, however grass can and does grow in very dry soil, and would only require a sprinkle every month or so - which could be done when Monty is out for her playtimes
Any thoughts? This must be a ridiculous idea surely... |

Really? Mine does...
Well, scouring Google has come up with no negatives / obvious no-no's, so I reckon this might be worth a try - will get growing a tray and maybe change my mind later on |

You CAN buy 'cat grass' on most seed stands in the diy/gardening departments and sow a few pots of this - could give Monty an interesting new bit of decor.
However, snakes seem to like to crush anything in their path; a while back I got some fab artificial ferns for next to nothing; Ziska has three of these in her viv, and any day now is going to be rechristened as the Boston Fern Strangler! |

Artificial grass! Interesting!! Did you ever use it? Ideally I'd like something with a bit more length (ooer!). I was also wondering if rug-rash / carpet burns would be an issue - I know it has been when I've taken the skin off my knees on astro-turf - but then I'm guessing Monty wont be sneaking any slide tackles in whilst I'm not looking
The pee thing: I wondered this also - but is it any different to her peeing all over her substrate? I guess I could even have another tray of grass growing on a window ledge ready to be swapped out during the next clean out. I'm really tempted to give this a try out. Think some more Google-hunting is in order... |

Well ...it's feasible but in my experience snakes will always soak anything like that with smelly wee, just as cats will always puke up on the carpet ...case of sod's law. Or just snakes, awkward little gits.
However, I admit this was a bit naughty, but I googled these guys (Everlawn) and got sent a generous pack of samples. Washable ...
