as some of you will know my little royal frank is fasting
hes lost about 13g now 5% of his body weight, he looks a little skinny at times in the viv but got him out for a pic an he looks fine so think it was how he was sat.
just wondering what would you try first to get him eating if he loses 10%.
braining makes no difference so was thinking scenting with mouse blood or something.

hes 293g about 2 1/2ft an in a 3x1x1 viv with 2 hides. hot end is 31-33c the cool end was 27c last time i checked(i dont have themometers in the cool end).
not worried just though i would get some ideas for if i need to do something.
i know its the season an hes out an about most nights looking for a mate. have only been handling to check/weigh him once a week ish

I'm not ultra-experienced with fasting, but last year Saada lost just under 10% of her bodyweight and stayed chunky (although she was bigger than Frank) and she resumed eating and has been fine.

I've noticed some restlessness in royals preparing to end their fast; in fact Saada was out and about early this morning; I'm going to offer her a rat today and hope she takes it.

I don't do anything extra to the rat, just the usual nose-warming, and wafting the smell into the viv may get an interested response even if they don't take; but I do offer a smaller rat to fasting royals; sometimes this does seem to tempt them.

Good luck with Frank - at this time of year I'm sure he'll start eating again soon.
