Ah, glad if we can help.

What area do you live in - I'm wondering if there might be someone on here who lives near to you and could help with administering the Baytril? Although as Chris says, if you find it impossible to get it down him, the vet will do it for you.

Good luck and all the best with him.

:) i really love the network of forums :) EVERYONE is always so helpful and literally make me feel better everytime about a problem im going to talk to Vets. Not to disregard the Vets knowledge but the way she told me to do it is not best for snoop he needs some other method to not stress him out as much.

ah we overlapped, Chris.

I know - I don't understand why myself but the slightest thing that goes amiss with my animals and the guilt is massive.

I don't see why you need to feel guilty - after all you've had Snoop to the vet's and you're doing your best to get things right for him.

But yes, the damn guilt takes over and it feels like the end of the world.

I can only say, I felt like this when I realised Sulah had mites. then I got my second wind, so to speak, and I got used to the situation, and now it just seems like routine (although of course treating for mites is much easier than RI.)

The only way to look at it is - you're learning a new skill, and it will never be as bad again because should it ever happen again, or you need to advise someone else, you'll know what to do and say.

It is hell though at first, and again all the very very best.

no need to blame yourself these things happen an you noticed early an got him the meds.

maybe you could squirt the meds into the rats mouth or bum?
if he eats it that is.
will the vets not give him the meds each time?
they offered to do jeff injection if i wanted to bring him in each time. not sure how far you are from the vets or weather they would try chargeing you each time

Just had a go and it was a disaster i feel if i use this method on snoop it'll increase the problem. please people keep posting suggestions by all means but i think i need to talk to the Vet

he's too headshy and he pulls so much it feels asif he is gonna hurt himself and i cant physically keep holding while it feels like that :/

the rat idea sounds promising he didnt eat last time i tried. Maybe he will now but id need the needle side to the syringe

another thing to add to this is that i CANNOT believe the amount of guilt that comes with the R.I :/

Ah - just seen your post Chris - yes, if he's eating, all you need to do is inject the antibiotic into the rat's backside - et voila!

Very sorry to hear he's got a RI.

Surely the vet should have explained how to administer the Baytril, and demonstrated how to do it. If it was me I'd ring the surgery and ask for more info.

In the meantime this vid of Kelf's might help.

All the very very best with him and best wishes for his recovery.

take it thats liquid? could you not inject it into a rat if hes eating?
someone with experiance of this should be on later, only experiance ive had was with injections
Shaneyy Posted - 08/03/2012 : 16:13:57
its bayril 2.5%

and well the vet said it'll be best for me to administer them orally. On any other animal i believe she would have been right lmao. but so yeah how would you go about it ? i have considered using the feeding thongs to pry his mouth open to drop them in.
