Took him back cost me 8.50 for an injection, they had a trainee to hold his head down so she could learn but boy was she scared of him. I thought a little unnecessary stress, but shes got to learn somewhere. Gotta go back Monday for one more. But hes improving from what iv seen so fingers crossed. Bless him, the little soldier.

yes the consultation fee is what they wanted for each snake. theres 2 rep vets the others an i think the nurse's deal mainly with the other normal stuff.

ive seen a video of someone popping an adult royal but from what ive read this could be damaging as once adult the muscle's in that area are much stronger than when young so will resist being popped.
the vids you see of people probing snakes make it look so easy

I once saw a vid by Ralph Davis, who confidently popped even adult royals ...fine if you've got the confidence.

I've sometimes thought I could pop a snake; would feel happier gently rolling its bits out rather than using probes (just personal opinion though as I'm sure, certain, gently probing is just as safe.) I never have tried though; luckily I've no need, and my local shop would probe for £5 per snake. Maybe more trouble for the snake though to have to be taken there.

Pity about your local rep shop - that vet's is iniquitous. I suppose what they're talking about is the 'initial consultation fee' which is fair enough - but in a rep vet's couldn't a nurse probe a snake? Not like it's a medical matter.

yes i did. i got 2 that were cohabiting supposed male an female the male went to a friend and kept the big "female" who then shed leaving sperm plugs!
my local rep shop said they would do it for free but i dont really like the place
after reaserching online i got some probes an probed him to check even though i was sure he was male just for practice.
im confident probing royals but not with my other skinny bodyed snakes

one of the rep vets at my local place was not a gentle as id have liked but the other bloke was much better.
they had about 4 trainees in the room when he was diagnosing the RI, a couple of them seemed a bit weary of the snake.
i felt a little bad doing it but he needed it an i was not taking him in every 3 days plus their expensive £48 just for an appointment

She was a trainee vet who was training in all areas i think cause I didn't need a Rep Vet today to diagnose just the injection. The main vet wasn't as gentle as I would have liked. I don't think he had much experience with snakes. And chrisc im glad i don't have to inject him myself, I'd feel bad lmao :).

A trainee in a rep vet's scared of a royal????

Never mind, at least she's learning.

Hope the RI clears up soon, good luck and get well soon Snoop!

good to hear hes improving.
i was stuck on my own for a week when jeff needed injections, had to put his head in a pillow case hold him an the end of the case round him to do it was great fun.
least with an injection its over in a few seconds

Whats up with him? What was the injection for?
