since i moved derek into his new viv 3ftl x 1.5ftw x 2fth i noticed hes been staying in the cool end so thought i would check the cool end temp.
hot end is 32c under the bulb but the cool end is 29c so need to be cooler.
im guessing the reason its hotter in the cool end is because the viv is 2ft in hight so the bulb is working more to get 32c on the floor.
how can i get the cool end cooler?
would putting another vent in the cool end help? currently has 2 4" vents at the top on either side or would it be better to raise the basking spot a shelf or something an have the stat/temp probes on that?

the 2 in there are about 4" across. will make a vent at the bottom of the cool side an see how it goes.
i know its in the tolerances but wouls be happier with more than 4c difference.
will let you know how it goes, cheers

Yeah I have 2 35mm vents about an inch from the bottom in the cool side and 2 high up on the hot side. Its probably an airflow issue causing the vivarium to get too warm (though not dangerously, its still well within tolerances of a Royal). Good luck with seeing what you can come up with.

one is a vivexotic 3ftx16"x15" has 2 vents at the top(both ends) an one in the middle at the bottom.

the other has a thin chipboard type back but only 2 vents at the top again at both ends. will make a couple of vents to go at the bottom of this one if that will help the air flow

Are your higher vents on the same side as the bulb? The heat escaping from the high vents drags in the cooler air in the bottom vents, like a chimney. I actually did tests on all my vivariums in the stack to make sure they ran perfectly and I noticed that if the hot end temperatures were turned down a bit the cool air wouldn't be drawn in as fast and the cool end would heat up, this maybe just the way my vivs and vents have been specifically designed but it might be worth checking your vents are doing their job

both the royals vivs are 32c hot an 28c cool.
what i forgot is the sun is on my windows all morning so my room gets warm so might be affecting the cool end temps. window is now open so will see if they drop a bit
