Posted - 23/03/2012 : 13:43:55 Hey guys. I was out shopping with my girlfriend today, and we went into a pet shop and looked in the reptile section. They had one royal for sale, a cb11 normal. 100 quid! Don't get me wrong, I love normals but I have never seen one that price! Which made me curious. Whats the most expensive normal you guys have seen? |

Posted - 24/03/2012 : 00:14:05 That's true seven. Maybe you would. It was in Loughborough jb, I'm in wigston tomorrow so I may swing by and have a look. Poor thing. I know what you mean bob, I'll know to negotiate now, whereas somewhat 4 months ago I'd have been totally oblivious and paid whatever lol |

Posted - 23/03/2012 : 21:05:09 Yeah £200 for a "proven breeder" female isn't uncommon it seems! I wouldn't pay it myself like, but if you had a male Morph you were desperate to breed and couldnt find anything else in your price range - you might be tempted! |

Posted - 23/03/2012 : 17:29:33 Yea I see where your coming from. 80 does seem to be about right then. The guy I go to is a breeder with his own shop so that's probably why he's cheaper than the other shops round here. 200! Bloomin eck! Will have to have a look |

Posted - 23/03/2012 : 15:39:39 For a sub-adult from a "pet shop" I think £80 seems to be ball park figure - this goes up with the snakes weight. This is expensive, but I appreciate they have certain costs to cover where you part time breeder might not. Money to be saved by going to a exotics specialist, full time breeder or even hobbyist breeder, over a general pet shop. I'd like to say "you get what you pay for" but unfortunately, that's not the case - you're probably better off going to a breeder / exotics shop.
The cost from a breeder will be significantly less for a 500gram male or less, bit more for a female - Normals are "surplus stock" to a breeder, who is most likely after Morphs only and the Normals are just the result of breeding Hets. Some hang on to their females for a while, maybe pair them up with a dom / co-dom morph and get one breeding season out of them, then sell them on as "1500gram proven breeders" for nearer the £200 mark. Check out RFUK for plenty of examples of this! |

Posted - 23/03/2012 : 14:02:40 80 quid again seven? I'm starting to think I got a bargain lol. Even the adults in the shop I now always use are only 60! |

Posted - 23/03/2012 : 14:00:09 Well when I first seen a royal it was 80, I was going to get it until I heard of a proper rep shop that were selling them for just 50. Yea I think they're just trying to exploit peopl that don't really know what they're buying. They just see a gorgeous little royal and want it straight away without thinking of shopping around. Like I almost did! |

Posted - 23/03/2012 : 13:54:11 Shop prices are always dearer, as we know, but a good while back I learned that an adult normal royal was traditionally sold for £10 per 100g - Surahi (normal dinker) was 1300g+ when I bought her in Nov 10, and I paid £135. Her sellers were asking £100 for another normal female who weighed a kilo. I paid £60 for Shahi as a cf hatchling in 2010.
However, in view of the huge number of normal adult or young royals available everywhere nowadays, plus morph prices coming down, £100 for a normal of any age does seem pretty steep to me.
I expect someone will buy the snake though. |
