Just had Monty out, all going well until I put him on the floor! I've got 2 dogs and one of them have been around my feet all day, the minute he got near my feet he struck, but fortunately got my flip flop rather than my toe, which saved me working out how I was going to get my toe up to the tap to get him off!

I'm ashamed to say it made me jump so much I pulled my foot back along with the flip flop, he had a good grip too, but I can't see I've pulled any teeth out.

I picked him up and he was fine, a little jumpy but nothing major.

He's happily back in his Viv now.

Ah!

Maybe defrost the rat in a nice smelly dog blanket? Next to your flipflop?

Sounds like he'll feed for you soon though, carrying on like that lol.

The ironic thing is he's not feed since 5th May, maybe I need to change my rats for dog smelling toes!

Ah - a case of a rat is a rat even if it is a big toe!

Naughty boy! Yeah I know it can make you jump when you're not expecting it - I once had that experience with Ziska when she was a baby (didn't realise she was anywhere near my hand in the viv and she shot out like a mamba, and because I jumped, she left a couple of teeth.

You'd know about it if he'd left teeth; they're like tiny slivers of glass, no mistaking.

It's been established that constrictors can often lose teeth while feeding; the teeth are taken down with the prey, but regrow.

Definitely sounds like the animal smell caused a feeding response - probably thought he was a good lad for accepting that nice warm toe.

But ouch, what a shock!
