Posted - 06/06/2012 : 01:14:07 Hi guys, im thinking of building a rack for my royals as I am planning on adding to my collection of royals but don't want to sell my soul to cover the electricity costs. Although I prefer vivs a rack is definitely a better option. Anyway can anyone advise on what I would require ie the size of tub (adult royals) type of stat and quantity, I plan on using heat tape, is that the best option?
Any advise that can be offered would be appreciated. Thanks |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 23:54:38 I have one may per stat, for £20-30 it's a small price compared to not running a stat.
I think kelf wrote a good piece about thermal blocking, I know F'all about it but most of the major breeders use either heat cable or mats and most pro racking systems come with mats/cable/tape with no mention of any issues |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 20:59:53 Thanks guys, so do you use just heatmats? i mean do you only have heat coming from underneath, what about thermal blocking?
any info you can give is a massive help at this stage.
so far i have got the 50 ltr tubs and im just about to put my design on paper so i can work out the wood measurements

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 20:16:07 I built my own using MDF heat mats and 33 or 50 ltr rubs with 1 pulse stat, cheap as chips and does the job. I`ll try and upload a picture later if i have time. |

I'm not sure on heat tape as I didn't use it, preferring to use a mat and stat for each level (2 tubs per level). It's more expensive doing it that way but ultimately more controllable.
As for tub size, a 50l RUB is size enough for an adult. You could always go bigger if you want
