Hi guys.I'm just woundering I have a young royal between 12/14 inches unshureof weight as it stands it is my first juvenile as my previous python was about 13years old when I had him from my dad iv seen a few people mention feeding a juvenile 2 items of food in one session eg 2pinkys or fuzzys and some only feed.one per week or 14 days since iv had him last week he has fed but only one pinky I feel he would be sutable for fuzzys as his girth would allow it but just wanted some advise or personal veiws on wether to try 2 items of food or stick two 1

Thanks for the help appreciate it I was.just unshure if.two.items of food.were necessary I.didnt think it would be personally as you have explained a shorter period between feeds to weight ratio.and size of food because iv not long had him I may keep to slightly.smaller items.ov food to make shure he's happy feeding although Mondays feed went fine so fingers crossed will update if he feeds tomorrow thanks for the help hope all is well with your.animals.to :)

I dont really ever see a need to double feed other than to see how they cope with a bigger meal for a few weeks before going out and buying bigger rodents. Plus it uses up any of the stuff thats a bit small.

If you are happy that the girth of the snake is big enough to take a bigger prey item and that the prey item is between 10 and 15% of the snakes weight and no fatter than it is then buy one, see how it goes. You would be amazed how much food they can get in their gobs, as long as the prey item isn't fatter than the snake then it will fit (its not an exact science stuff that is even bigger fits too but to keep weight gain and stress on the body down to a safe level its the magic ratio we work to).

under 500 grams then every 5 days is fine, then once over 500 grams its every week, then when they hit a kilo its every 10 days then 1.5 kilo and every 2 weeks. Thats how I worked it anyway my Royal hit 1.5 kg not so long ago but again its not set in stone, monitor weight gain to strike a balance, you want steady weight gain when little and for it to start slowing down as they get older.
