Chris Challice i had a garter snake when about 11 or 12 i think so always had a thing for reptiles. about 2 years ago i was given a beardie that unfortunatly had severe MDB due the the previous owners not haveing the setup right(not neglect just given the wrong advice) unfortunatly after lots of money on equipment an vets an a treatment for worms he just stopped eating so had to have him put to sleep during this time i also had another young beardie who is now with a friend. having these basically fueled my passion for reptiles so i bought my old corn snake phoenix then was given the rat snake jeff an its all an the collection keeps growing Stephen Crockford I know you do a lot of volunteer work at reptile rescue centres too, can you tell us a bit about that? Chris Challice a good friend runs/owns swindon reptile rescue and i go up once or twice a week to chat an help clean an feed the amimals ect. he has been rescueing an rehabilitating reptiles an other exotics for over 30 years. i have also helped out at a few of his animal encounter/reptile rescue shows to help raise awareness an teach good husbandary/car about these animals an the shows also help raise funds to feed the 300 odd reptiles that he has. the entry fee i charge for my swindon reptile meets covers the hall hire and the rest is donated to the reptile rescue Stephen Crockford That's great the reptile hobby always needs more spokespersons and awareness! It wouldn't be a good interview around this time if I didn't ask for your opinion of the APA and what you think about the Doncaster issue last month. Chris Challice right without swearing about them. the APA are very misguided with what they preach/campain about as 90% of the stuff on their website is not true but unfortunalty you cant talk or reason with them which to be honest is a shame as yes there is a small minority of bad keepers an shops(not as bad as other more common pets though) if they would acctually listen an do proper reaserch into keeping reptiles they would see that us reptile keepers show as much love an care towards are reptiles as people do with say a cat or dog. if the APA listened an were on our side it would help stamp out the bad minority of the reptile community. with the doncaster issue i didnt go but spammed everywhere with info about whats going on an posted links to the IHS an FBH. i am now a member of the IHS an donated to the FBH. an big thank you to chris newman and everyone else from the IHS an FBH who made it possible for the show to go on as usual Stephen Crockford Aye that's good everyone should consider becoming a member. Changing the subject to something a little lighter - we have a lot of disagreement on trp between morphs and normals, which side of the fence are you on Chris? Chris Challice with morphs it depends on the type of snake to me i love all normal/wild type snakes but there are a few royal python morphs an quite a few boa morphs that i like. i dont really like bull, pine or gopher snake morphs and have recently seen albino brazilian rainbow boas the normals are stunning snakes an personally i really dont like the albino ones Stephen Crockford Okay Chris well I know your on a tight schedule right now so I'll make this our last question - Any future plans on more snakes? Chris Challice yes there is a long list of snakes an reptiles that i want, will list them as its easier. burm, more boas, The black-headed cat snake (Boiga nigriceps), carpet pythons, bosc monitor, green iguana and many more i cant think of right now Stephen Crockford So we can expect a lot more from you brilliant.
