I heard what can only be described as sneezing coming from Irwins viv today.
Do they sneeze?
He is having trouble looking the head and neck part of his shed.
Bathed him yesterday and it helped with the rest of his body, looks like im gona have to bath him again today.
not really sure what to do.
I've heard of using tape to get the eye caps off but he wont let me go anywhere near his head! |

go for the damp moss hide idea suggested by WS, if you put one in either end and remove his usual hides then he'll have to use the damp ones. mist his viv once or twice daily for 2 days, then bath again and try the pillowcase or towel methods. DON'T keep his environment this damp for more than a few days though as it could harm his health, Royals aren't designed to live in high humidity. |

tried everything and still the eye caps and his neck, head and a few inches down havent shed.
doesnt seem to be affecting him now, no more sneezing.
as I right this he is tucking in to a xlarge mice.
Is it OK to leave it till the next shed? |

cant edit last post as i am on my phone, but wanted to add to what BE said about the putting him in a pillowcase with paper, i had to do something similar with a kingsnake and it does work, but five minutes is not long enough as the skin needs to soften to come off |

have a warm damp towel put the snake on it so as he is halfway or so down then hold him and the towel and let him move through it, dont have the towel so as he moves through your hands real easy, is best if you make it so he has to push a little.
Failing that does he have a moss box?
you could try taking out his hides put the moss box in so he has to use that , it will probably do the trick for you. |

bathed him for a while.
tried to get him to run through a towel but he wouldnt!!
still has the caps and shed on his head and under a quarter of the way down.
cant work out why
he shed fine the first time.
starting to worry now, running out of options |

Don't have it too warm, around 30C is fine. |

Thanks for the info.
I only left him in the bath for 5 or so minutes yesterday, was worried longer would stress him out! |

Don't use tape, its very dangerous it you're even slightly heavy handed.
The sneezing/wheezing is likely due to the shed irritating his airways.
Let him bath for 20 minutes and then let him run through a towel or flannel.
If that doesn't work you could try putting him in a pillowcase with a couple of rocks and lots of damp scrunched up newspaper for an hour in his viv. (tie the end up obviously). |
