Hello, sorry I know there has been loads of posts very similar to this one but I just want some reassurance.

My little Royal had a bad shed last night and about half - lower third has retained.

Usually when my corn has some retained shed and it's never usually much I get some wet cotton and gently rub her down with it, is that the best thing to do with my Royal? Or because there is so much retained shed is it better to do something different?

Also can people give me a few tips on ways to up the humidity when they do go into shed? I put their water bowls in the hot end of the viv, but that's all I do, what else can I do to help?

Awesome, thanks everyone I shall definitely try some of those techniques next time my little man sheds :)

I went in and checked on him yesterday evening and luckily he'd managed to get it all off, I guess it just takes him forever and ever to shed haha I was so relieved, there aren't any long solid bits of shed, is that normal for Royals? It seems like he has loads of trouble with shedding. My little corn just seems to wriggle and boom, within half an hour one big long good shed, are Royals naturally bad shedders because I've seen a fair bit about bad sheds on here?

I have one snake that refuses to shed properly up until his last one and I almost got a full shed if it wasn't for the pesky tail tip. Moist hides when they are blue is the way to go. Find an appropriately sized tub with a lid that wont just fall off, then cut a snake sized hole in the top, half fill the tub with damp moss or as I do, shredded kitchen roll and almost every time as soon as one of these hides goes in they will move in for the duration of the shed. I have used flannels over hides, spraying, and find the moist box gets the best results, spraying and flannels as well wont hurt.

I use the damp pillow case method I have only needed to do this once but worked perfect. Just get a pillow case soak it in warm water, ring it out so it feels damp to thd touch, put snakey in the pillow case tie up put in viv for 10-15 mins, hopefully all the moving inside trying to get out rubs all the shed off. If you don't fancy that then give a Luke warm bath for same amount of time then run firmly through a warm damp tea towel. As for raising humidity add a moss hide and mist lightly twice a day with warmish water.

You can also try putting a warm damp flannel on top of the warm hide that works for me

You can give the viv a light misting down while they're in shed, I use paper substrate when mine go clear from blue I normally mist it once a day until the substrate is damp and let it dry out and crisp up - works wonders for me but I use RUB's not vivs.

As for the retained shed if she shed today give her 24 hours she might get the rest of herself, if not then you can use the cotton method you mentioned, most people go for pillow baths where you submerge a pillow case in warm water then take it out and leave the snake inside it for a while (about 10 mins normally)

Personally when I get retained shed I struggle, I can never get the damn stuff off so hopefully somebody who is better will have more advice.
