This is a chart that shows one of my royals weights across the year. He's gone from 220g in April and is now sitting at 1133g. Is this good going for less than a year? He's only missed a couple meals so I'm really pleased

He looks healthy to me, and not over weight in my opinion. Just to add, in my opinion, of what i've seen, that snake bytes tv is full of a bunch of idiots, that just antagonize and miss treat their snakes. as stated its a business. |

Well put. Some of the people on TRP are always setting me straight it was only this morning that Delboy was telling me what actually happened during Ovulation.
As far as my knowledge of it stretched it was Breed > Ovulation > Magic > Eggs!  |

Firstly bob was right about opportunistic feeding often beign mistaken for appetite, your snake is a wild animal it'll eat because it doesn't know if/when the next meal will come along.
Second I agree that the weight increase does seem a bit much but without seeing the snake in person I wouldn't really like to comment, the graph looks steady which is always a good thing though.
Thirdly snakebytes or BHB are a business they make money from getting snakes bigger quicker - the health risks for an overweight snake won't really start to show until the snake is 10 years old and dead where it should have lived to 40 - In 5-6 years BHB have already sold on anything that hatched that long ago as whatever it was they probably now about at least 1000 more that are younger and more willing to pop out eggs, it's not necesarily wrong fo them but they're a business it's all about money.
Yes people get fat and continue to get fatter, then they die. Not sure where your argument was there.
Obesity is something we often see alot of especially with Royals and it's because of large scale breeders who show off animals that are built to grow quickly and lay eggs, doesn't mean they're healthy.
BUT! As usual I'm no snake expert my opinion is as worthwhile as the next guys, up to you which path you want to take.

Edit: I also want to take this moment to mention that I personally dispise this theory that a female royal should hit 1500g and be breeding in 3 years, In my limited experience I've not had a snake feeding healthily that could come close to 1500g in 3 years I think it's incorrect and unhealthy to assume it's normal. |

Well, till she was 900g she was getting rat every 7 days. Above 900g she gets rat every 10 days. But what I mean is - if 1kg female will get 150g rats every 10days and never miss her feed (even while on shed) it'll make her fat pretty fast. I don't worry about that because I know she will stop feeding on her own if she has to. If she looks a 'bit fat' then slowing the amount you are feeding her is exactly the thing to do. 'Loving their food' is mistaking opportunistic feeding for appetite. If you know its not normal and you know she is eating too much then I can't really understand what your point is and what you have read on many websites is absolutely correct, overfeeding/powerfeeding is wrong and bad for your snake. |

I'm talking from my experience. I know that not every royal python is the same but one of my females is exactly the same. I bought her on 12th of may and she weighed 212g - apparently poor feeder (6months old). Today I checked her and she is 1111g. I know it's not normal because she eats too much, sheds too often and looks like fat little ball. I read on many different websites that pythons should not be overfed but my female just love her food and I'm not going to stop feeding her just because she looks a bit fat. I will take a picture for you do we will be able to compare. |

Weight to age is never indicative of being overweight. As it doesn't have any info about the length of the snake, or even if its a particularly chunky (but not fat) snake or even if its a confirmed male or female.
Looks to me like a nice steady and constant growth rate, pretty much a straight line, as long as you are feeding appropriately then its unlikely to be anything but a good thing. |

I have recently changed to feeding him every 10 days, I only feed him rats that are between 90-110g. I believe he was hatched September 2011 |

Too me it looks like he is slightly to heavy for his age. How often do you feed him? Nearly 1kg in 8months is a bit too much. I believe you still feed him every 7 days with quite big rats. |

I've had him since last November, got him at 98g but he didn't put much weight on until April.
My other royal has only put 157g on in 5-6 months! |

One of mine is 900g odd,Has eaten non stop plus is abit older.But i haven't weighed him in awhile. |

my guy is five years old and only weighs 950gms and is around 4.5ft, so yeah yours is doing well |
