well thanks lotabob my uncle spoke to the breeder and all he give me was a bottle of calligton which i wont use because i got a hold of the frontline hes is only small breeder with JCP but i would be the same if sold a sick animal to some especially if its for a friends family member but i guess thats how the cookie crumbles

Glad that things are on the mend now, I would be tempted to speak to the breeder, if only to advise him/her that their stock/collection may be infested. Play it nice and advise him/her of the cost involved in treating. You never know, they may just offer you some kind of gesture of goodwill as the mites were brought in on the new snake and it is sick too, an RI only becomes visually or audibly obvious to us once it gets quite bad so its probably been sick for some time. I know if I sold anything to anyone and it turned out to be ill or mite infested I would offer to pay the vet costs, my reputation and conscience would need to be protected.

Glad it got all sorted out in the end. My royal has just got over mites too. But a killer week trying to out them all. But I got there
Pythonwizard Posted - 04/02/2013 : 21:17:26
trip to the vet on Saturday and its good news its seems the mites have done one and the RI is clearing up my chances didnt seem to good a week a go with only 30% chance of the anandti bio tics working and seems they have worked so if the others get mites am covered got bottle of calligtions and frontline it was a good job i didnt pay the £200 and i only payed around £100 for two trips to the vets good news anyway :)

not used that as only delt with injecting antibiotic's

could be from the breeder but reptile's are great at hiding any illness's from us, might be worth contacting the breeder so he can check his other animal's

Pythonwizard Posted - 25/01/2013 : 22:48:35
They give me marbocyl and I had to give down its throat just a shame I will never buy a snake uless from a petshop or some one on here but o guess we learn from are mistakes the vet reckons hit was from the breeder.

all good now you have the med's for him, what did they give you? fortrum or baytril?
it cost me £106 for the check up an a course of fortrum when my old rat snake had an RI.

they prescribed frontline for the mite's??

glad to hear it's nothing to serious, hope he's back to good health soon
Baobab Posted - 25/01/2013 : 21:27:35
Good news. Its under control. Have you got to feed the tube down your carpets throat to give the antibiotics or was it an injection.
Pythonwizard Posted - 25/01/2013 : 21:08:03
well a trip to vet today.i found out that it is RI witch he gave me the medicine got to go back in week. i also got a prescription for frontline which good because i couldn't get hold of it any where else. it cost me £54 just for the medicine but a first they tried to offer me everything including:lab test, training for giving medicine and other stuff witch would of cost £190 all in all i thought they where nice and helpful but the vet was bit loopy.
Baobab Posted - 25/01/2013 : 21:07:59
How did the trip to the vets go?
chrisc Posted - 25/01/2013 : 18:13:33
i agree it's better to have a few quid put aside for any emergency's.

what's the verdict from the vet's pythonwizard?

I have found that pet insurance is a crock of shhhhhhh they never pay out without jumping through hoops. I worked out what insurance would cost and put that money into a savings account, its a small gamble but I have money to cover any unexpected expenses, and then when I have a good wad of cash in the savings account thats my vet bills paid no problems and I actally still own the money rather than lining the pockets of bankers.

I aint got insurance on mine but I have heard it is virtually impossible to get payouts from them tho cause they just say its your fault if they get ill even tho it aint
chrisc Posted - 24/01/2013 : 18:19:37
i dont have any reptile insurance but exotic's direct seem to be fairly good an works out about £11 a month if i remember right
Pythonwizard Posted - 24/01/2013 : 18:15:04
thanks chris major confidence boost

what rep insursnce do u recommend
chrisc Posted - 24/01/2013 : 18:00:00
not good but nothing to major to be honest, sound's like you've caught if early if these are the first sign's so a course of antibiotic's will get him sorted before long.

upping the temp's by a couple of degree's an upping humidity help's with RI's
