this is the treatment i use for getting shot of mite's and it work's very well
first up empty the viv of substrate and hoover out any dust/small bit's

then spray the viv with ardap making sure you get it round the corner's/edge's.
leave the viv closed for 24 hour's then open the door's and let it air out for 4-5 hour's before putting the snake back

whilst your waiting for the viv to be ready place the snake in a rub and cover them in a thin layer of olive oil making sure their completely covered
NOTE:-if the snake is in blue or it's eye's have cleared an it's due to shed do not use the oil until the shed cycle is complete as there is a chance it could cause shedding problem's if their already in a shed cylce

once oiled up leave them in a tub overnight till the viv is ready

snake's securely tubbed up with something heavy to stop them getting out

wrapped in a quilt to keep a bit of warmth in, my room is nice and warm but if your house/room is a bit cold you may want to place a heat mat along the side of the rub/rub's or some warm water bottle's for a bit of heat.

with any hide'a/plant's/bit's of wood place them in a bin bag give a good spray of ardap tie the top an leave outside overnight

also give the outside if the viv an surrounding carpet a spray with ardap to kill any wandering mite's, it's also a good idea to remove any invert's to a different room while using the ardap

within a few day's/week the snake will go into shed to get the oil off itself once it has shed clean out an scrub the viv to get rid of any oil left from the snake moving about an you should hopefully be mite free
if you have a heat mat on the floor of the snake's viv i would not reccomend using the oil due to the chance of burn's from an oiled up snake sitting directly on the mat

This is the method I used too when the dreaded mites appeared! It worked a treat. Bathed them to get rid of remaining oil (Sas hated it) and they shed soon after. Mites are tricky little buggers and we found some hiding in the scales under their chins.

when did that come into force lotabob? not heard about that

yes a 200ml can will be plenty as it's potent stuff so don't need a huge amount, ive just done 3 3ft's, 2 4x18's, 1 4x2 and a 6x2 with a 200ml can
Pythonwizard Posted - 28/12/2013 : 18:09:15
what are the chance of them finding it ?

A small point to remember is that spray mite treatment can't be sent through the post anymore so you'll have to pick it up in a store. If Royal Mail find it in the post they will destroy it.

Do you think the 200ml will do for 3 snakes ?
chrisc Posted - 28/12/2013 : 07:44:22
ive not used this method with snake's in a rub yet but i would give the snake a warm bath after a couple of hour's to get rid of most of the oil before putting in back in the rub
as the snake is not going to be sat directly on the heat mat there shouldn't be a risk of burning
yes you want to drill some vent hole's in the rub's

no make sure all of the snake is covered as if the snake has been soaking the some of the mite's will be hiding around the eye's

Do you have to make sure the oil doesn't go on the snakes head or near the mouth and nose?
Pythonwizard Posted - 28/12/2013 : 00:46:47
Maybe stupid question but do u drill holes in them boxes where u leave the snakes for 24hrs?
