Hello, me and my partner have just bought a Royal Python, but are unsure of altering the thermostat. Should it be turned down during the evening or should it be kept at the same temparature all the time? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I'm totally green at looking after snakes, but i'm learning all the time from this great website.

infrareds and ceramic bulbs can be left on 24/7 as snakes dont really see the red bulb and leaving a white bulb on will stress it.

Thanks for all the help guys. This is my only heat source, so i'm assuming if we bought the bulbs you suggested we would need another heat source?

Such as:

Is that being used to heat the viv, or do you have another heat source?

If that is the only heat source, is it on a thermostat and yes it would need to be guarded.

Personally, I would swap it for an Infrared heat bulb (probably around 75W) on a dimming stat.

It's a white one mate, do i need some sort of guard for it?
lee2308 Posted - 24/07/2009 : 00:00:24
is it a white light bulb or a red one? or is it a ceramic (no light emiting)

Very cheap on ebay, just search for 'Digital Aquarium Thermometer'

Thanks mate, i only asked as my partner's boss (who we bought it from) said to do so. I'm not totally sure what sort of heat source we have, it's got a light, so i'm guessing the heat source comes from the bulb? We'll definitely invest in a thermometer though, i want everything to be right for our new pet!

Hi, some people do drop the temperature, to be honest, there is no real need to except perhaps during breeding.

Don't trust the thermostat dial though, use a digital thermometer to check the temps.
