After returning from doncaster with a beautiful baby female spider I noticed my male royal appears to have a small 'dent' in his left eye I'm really concerned about it, is it something I should be? If so what can I do? I'm keeping a close watch over him as he is starting to go into shed hoping it may clear up.

the day before he shed he was laying in his water bowl so we didnt bath him in the end, as we thought his laying in his bowl would help, he then went into shed, it wasnt going great so we got some moss and out that in his hide which worked a treat and got pretty much all of it off, exept the tip of his tail n a mincule bit on his back which came off no probs with a wet towl :)

Good news about the eye, if it was a bit of dehydration, that may also be the cause of the bad shed?

PS. and yes, some don't drink enough, even if it is available for whatever reason.

Oh right, sorry. You could try giving him a swim in a washing up tub, this would help if it is dehydration.

He appears to have a dented eye would it be that he has rubbed it on a bit of his log of wood he climbs around on? Will have another look at him this evening

Why, has Cecil also got a dented eye?
fiestastlou Posted - 27/09/2010 : 09:37:58
oh no dont say my baby cecils dehydrated :( hes always got fresh water out of a big bowl? and his bowl is on the cool end so the heat mats not making the water warm? is it posssible they can get dehydrated even if they have water and its always changed?
Blackecho Posted - 27/09/2010 : 07:38:26
If he's drinking lots I'd say he was likely a little dehydrated.

Yeah definitely worth knowing at what point during shed did u do this?
mischang Posted - 26/09/2010 : 22:25:36
one of mine had the same i read online some where dab it with baby oil just a dab so i did and within 4 hrs it was gone never had it since but it was when i first got him and he had retained shed since i've had him he has clean sheds , but worth knowing i think
royal_mike_85 Posted - 26/09/2010 : 22:06:18
Ok, I've got him a bigger water bowl and he seems to be drinking from it regularly, I've got him on aspen bedding which I suspect is why there's little humidity, I tried him on tree bark as it was more moist but he was having trouble shedding not sure what to do
Blackecho Posted - 26/09/2010 : 21:58:48
It can be to do with a lack of humidity/dehydration, give it a few days to settle in and see if it changes.

I'm hoping its only the eye cap too noticed it as I was feeding him and my partners corns, I've never noticed the dent before when he goes into shed notice things more now he is much bigger as opposed to when I first had him

Sorry, Robert, we overlapped!

Hi, I've never seen this myself, but have heard that it can happen when a snake is going into shed and should disappear after shed.

Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge should be along soon. All the best!
Robert Posted - 26/09/2010 : 21:48:53
Hopefully it will probably be a dent in the eye cap that he is about to shed, wait until he has and check again
