hey guys and girls,

i got my royal out earlier this evening and i noticed it kind of weezing but it does not sound like us when we get weezy it sounds like a whissle you no when we get like a bogey or something so im presuming its just skin on the nasel passage but i cnt see it. but his last shed was on the 11/10/10.

he is very active and is mooching around his hide almost every nite and is some times just lay on his log or on his hide ect, he missed his last feed on the 10th of this month and his last feed was on the 19/11/10 so effectivly he hasnt fed this month, but i am putting this down to him looking or a mate as he is so active, i would like if someone could tell me what they do when there snake misses a feed as i tried feeding again 2 days laer and the same again 2 days later but no luck lol. should i wait until he would have been due his feed after that if he did eat it? i normaly feed him every 10 days so if he missed his feed after 10 days should i wait until the 20th day to offer again?

just wondering as the last 2 rats i offered just went to waste as i only have 1 snake (hoping to get more :) )

many thanks chirs

Has anything changed re: the husbandry? Cold draught in the room, low temps, over stressed snake etc.
Some signs of RI are popping/clicking noises when the snake exhales, listen closely in a quite room, open mouth breathing, mucus bubbles throughout the mouth and throat, and stargazing (to get the mucus to slide down the throat so the snake can breathe). If you feel confident enough and with some help use centre (plastic bit) of a cotton bud to open your snakes mouth and check for excess mucus and discoloration.

As you say though could just be loose skin or may have bobbed it's head under water and trying to clear it. Just try have a good look and listen.

Trying to feed every 2 days is only going to stress him (and you) out Chris. If any of mine miss a feed i have a check over the snake and husbandry, making sure nothing is wrong. Don't handle and Then just offer again a week later.

Hi, from reading on this forum I gather they can start making peculiar nasal noises when going into shed, as the soon to be shed skin can obstruct nasal passages.

As for the not feeding, it's what royals do this time of year - his mind's on other things lol. I try them every week ... and tie it in with corn feeding day - that is why everyone starts with corns ...then when they go on to royals, the corns mop up any unwanted rodents!
