Can anyone help?
I recently moved house the beguining of December 2010 & have now been here nearly 3 months, the thing is that Sambuca my Royal Python has not even vetured outside his hide once since & has only eaten once also. He is around 10 years old & never acted like this before. I took him out to see if he was ok the other day & noticed a kind of whistling noise while breathing & was worried it maybe RI but there are no signs of mucus or anything like that. I have now increased the temperature to around 90%F at the cool end hoping if this is some kind of RI it will help, i'm also thinking he maybe stressed from the move & really dont know what is best to do for him.
If anyone can help please do? |

I took Sambuca out this morning to see how he was & his breathing sounded a little better & there was no whistling anymore, so hopefully he is slowly getting better. But he is still not coming out at all & stays under his hide all the time, so not sure why that is. But i will keep a close eye on him over the next week & if he is still acting strange or if his breathing gets worse again i will get him to the vet.

Yes, worked for me too : ) It took a while for Tig to get fully better, but even so it improoved his breathing loads after just a few days. Much better than trying to get Baytril down him! |

I can vouch for the alternative treatment, within a week he was cured. No sign of R.I anymore, and no need to pump your snake full of nasty antibiotics. Would thoroughly recommend you trying it out. |

sorr bob, didn't realize he had sed 90*f had the cold end, i would say that is too hot for the cold end, i was on about the hot end being at about 95* |

Yes i thought he would have settled in by now also, but apparently not. Nothing has really changed in his tank & it still is basically the same as the old house, its just real strange that he doesnt come out at all, even at night as there is no signs of movement in the morning. I even work shiftwork so some days im up just before 4am & still no signs of him. The temperature at the moment is around 89%F where his hide is & im not to sure like Royalbob says if i should turn it up to much hotter as otherwise the hot end will be scorching, but like you say if anyone can add to this please correct me if im wrong.

Thanks for your help Royalbob & i will keep a close eye on him & if nothing seems to be improving after a couple of weeks i will think about taking him to a vet just to get him checked out. |

I wouldn't raise the temp any more than 90F. Because if the cold end is at 90F as the OP states what is the hot end reading?
Personally i would go for a gradient of 85-95 for a few days and reassess. There are alternative R.I treatments that you can read up on
but i would always advise a vet visit if your not sure. |
