Just a quick question.

Had Jessie since Jan 2011, she was born in late 2010.

She hasnt shed yet and doesnt seem to be showing signs of doing so any time soon. What would be the normal age for a baby royal to shed at for the first time?

Cheers.

Jessie shed today, came off in two parts, eyecaps and all!

Thats a good idea, I dont know exactly when she was born, just that it was late in 2010, so I wouldnt be surprised if she had shed before we got her.

Thanks for your help BATS

I'll post when she sheds first, hopefully it will be a clean one, but if not then I get to give her a bath (I've read the very helpful stickey post on bathing royals), so I'm looking forward to it either way!

LOL - 'course you can!

All the best for her shed - it's just occurred to me - would her breeder or supplier be able to give you her shedding dates? Could be that she shed just before she came to you?

Thanks for the reply BurnedAtTheStake (may I call you BATS as I see other posters do? ), yes she is very fond of her moss box, she spends more time in there than in her big hide!

Looking forward to seeing her shed but I'll not worry that shes taking her time thanks again.

LOL - the first rule of royals - there is no such thing as 'normal'!

She will have shed while with the breeder; they live on their yolk sac while newborn, then shed, and then after that begin on solid food.

Generally a young snake sheds more frequently than an older snake, but (another rule of royals!) they are all different. It's nothing out of the way to have had her a month or so without seeing a shed yet. I saw in another post that she's fond of her moss hide - could be that she's planning to shed soon, maybe, but don't worry - she'll do it in her own sweet time.

All the best!
