I think Blitz has a mite on his eye !!
Can i remove it like i did with the mites in his body or is it dangerous to be close to his eye ?

Yooooohooooooooo !!! i'm so happy now, i've just finished removing the tick from Blitz' eye
but damn that was so stressful for ME and for Blitz, may be it was stressful for me more than for him  i think this was too much for a person who have a snake for the first time in his life. hope he will feel more comfortable now, i'll give him a 5 day rest and then i'll try to feed him |

I have seen the rotate instruction before on tick removers, I honestly don't know why they say rotate. I have always just removed them with tweezers pulling straight up from the skin, my vet showed me the first time my dog got a tick and its worked every time even on myself. |

TWIST??? Twist just causes the head to snap off, you pull straight up from the skin, more chance of the head coming out clean. I too have had to remove ticks and have never had a single one break. It hurts like hell and bleeds something shocking but a thorough flush out of the wound should stop the bleeding.
EDIT: Just consulted the tube of you and found this perfect demo of how to do it. (Don't attempt it on the one by the eye though, just let it drop off itself and kill it as soon as it comes free). |

aaahh a topic I can help with... if it is a tick, by now it would have doubled in size, if so don't be surprised if it does drop off on it's own when it is full. As this one is so close to the eye it is advisable to get the vet to remove it, but if you find anymore on him (which for a short while is quite possible) using tweezers hold the tick by the head and GENTLY pull in an upwards twisting motion. I tend to do this over a bath, if you remove all the tick it will be alive and will start crawling at which point a grab the nearest bottle of shower gel and whack it ;-) clean the area thoroughly with sterile water (boiled water allowed to cool) If you are unlucky that the head remains in 90% of cases the body will push it out on it's own....
A single tick can lay hundreds if not thousands of eggs so the advise above about removing and destrying all bedding, disinfect the cage and anything that can with stand being boiled do that. It will take a little while to rid of them but is possible.. I have 2 cats, 2 dogs & 3 kids whom i remove ticks from during the summer months from where we walk through the woods or down the river.
However saying all this, you have to be confident that you can do, else it may well be a trip to the vet if you find anymore... I really hope your snakey gets better soon... |

You've a challenge on your hands to get him back to health but the water blisters are a result of the ticks, not directly but when snakes are feeling uncomfortable they go sit in water, its this that causes the blisters. They will go in time you just have to be careful to not burst them. If they do burst there is a risk of infection, ask the vet to give you some vetinarian iodine just incase they burst then you can bathe the wound and keep it clean.
You'll need to completely remove and bin everything in his enclosure including that fabric heat mat, it is a perfect tick incubator. They may also be in your home now, the only good news is they are more visible and easier to iradicate than mites although the damage they do to your snake is greater.
Your on this site and you are genuinely concerned about your snake and I do wish you luck in getting your snake treated. It won't be easy or cheap as it appears a very specialised pet in your country.
For equipment, are you able to use www.ebay.co.uk for the right price most companies post abroad, also email UK companies and explain your circumstances and again I'm sure for the right price they will post abroad. |

I had him since 28/3/2011, and no, i didn't take him out yet, i think he had ticks since i get him.
you maybe ask ur self "so why did u pick up him if he were in a mess ?

I'll tell you, i've been waiting two years till i found a royal python in this country (Syria), here nobody is interesting in keeping a snake as a pet.
i've spent two days searching for a bulb gaurd, and i didn't find anything even close to it :P
since no one is keeping snakes, so there's nothing available like set up, froozen preys, etc
But i love Royals and i'm doing my best to take care of my royal and make him comfortable |

Tomorrow mornin i'm going to get Blitz to a vet, so the vet remove the tick and give me advise how can i handle the water blisterz.

My cat health book told me that I must kill the tick without damaging the head in order to withdraw its fangs safely from the animal without leaving any fragments inside to cause infection. It advocated pressing a pad of cotton wool soaked with surgical spirit over the tick (NOT something you could safely do near an eye I agree!) and the tick would die and come away cleanly. There are many methods, of course, but this one worked for me.
However I wouldn't take surgical spirit NEAR a snake, and, yes, I agree, vet asap. Good luck with him and all the best. |

You don't need to kill it, you just have to not squeeze them, as they regurgitate all the crap inside them into the wound. You have to use tweezers to pinch the thorax, the abdomen is the bit to not touch and the head will be buried into the flesh. I have experience of these awful critters, it hurts like hell and they have a really good grip, I thought my leg was going to come off before it came loose.
Anyway its irrelevant, you need to get your snake to a vet at this stage or just wait for the tick to have its fill and fall off as its too close to the eye to risk doing anything yourself. If its a tick infestation which it appears to be your snake will be feeeling quite poorly, will be anemic and weak. Please take it to a vet ASAP as it needs sorting out and treating. Ticks can and will bite humans too so watch out, they are attracted to vibration and exhaled breath (I go hill walking and both me and my dog have felt the pain of tick bites). |

If it's a tick, definitely professional help, as Bob and Hodgie have said.
I once dealt with one on a dog, and also a hedgehog, and it's incredible how fast they swell up and debilitate the animal. You have to make sure you kill it before withdrawing it, and with it being so close to Blitz's eye, I wouldn't take any chances.
Didn't answer your thread before because I've never dealt with mites - touch wood. But I have done ticks. If it is a tick, you can't miss it - it will have stayed in the same place and swelled up.
All the best - not the end of the world, but poor old Blitz, hope things improve for him. |

I thought tick too, looks massive. They are a bugger to remove from skin so removing from between scales and eye wil be dangerous as they inject a sustance that prevents clotting, you pull it out and it will bleed lots and do it wrong you'll leave the head still inside and then you'll have huge infection problems as well as the bleeding. It also raises the question, have the ''mites'' you have pulled off looked like this one? |
