my royal is having his first shed since being in my company and his eyecaps and most of the head came off a few days ago but the rest is still there from the start of the neck down, looks loose as if he could easly crawl out. it is like he is just sitting in it,can anybody tell me if this is normal and if i should just leave him be for now? never spotted this on my other snakes.

I'd had my first royal, Shahi, for only a week when I had to help him with a bad shed. I was terrified I'd done something wrong, but I bathed him in a 9 litre rub - he seemed to forgive me. I hadn't learned about the damp pillowcase then - for such a new royal I'd personally try that as it entails far less handling.

Good luck.

Hi, you could try a bath - there is a good sticky on this by MissCat, or else you could put the snake in a damp pillowcase, tie the top, and place in a ventilated rub for 30 mins or so. The humidity and friction as the snake moves about may be enough to bring off the rest of the shed or at least make it start to come off by itself. It's good that the eyecaps have come off, but the tailtip is important too.

Hope this helps.
