Posted - 21/12/2011 : 15:03:04 Tomorrow i'll be collecting my Sonoran Boa, but just 10 days ago got my daughter's Royal. Both came from the same store, both are captive bred 3 month old babies but different breeders.
If there was a risk of this horrible disease, they'd already be infected? |

Posted - 22/12/2011 : 09:23:57 the beardie is the gf, she took her in when she was dumped with a corn snake outside a volunteers house for a local wildlife charity. it was taken to her vet practice for treatment then ended up here lol. it took a good few weeks before she would eat on her own. the beardie is her department, im not a lizard person. i just had to set the viv up for her |

Posted - 22/12/2011 : 09:01:05 well she keeps getting rabbits so she can't say much lol
just the usual, handle them, check that they seem healthy, check for mites (you can still miss the mites, i found them a couple of days after bringing her home)
i only went for a female as they get bigger, the breeder only had one female so i didn't have much choice |

Posted - 22/12/2011 : 08:16:24 one snake is never enough. i don't even ask the gf if i can get any more. when i bought the boa i went out for a few hours and came back with it. think she would draw the line at a red tail boa or burmese python though |

Posted - 21/12/2011 : 15:17:01 Not necessarily, shops tend to have very good hygiene between snakes and most locate their boa's and pythons on opposite ends of the room. At any rate you should always quarantine a new reptile before you bring it into your home, try to keep it in a completely separate room and always use alcohol rub between interaction with the reptiles. It's not just IBD you're protecting your python from but plenty of other things as well :)
I believe 30 days is the average quaratine period but with boa's to pythons some people do 12 weeks or 3 months just to be on the safe side :) |
