Posted - 26/12/2011 : 17:50:31 Yesterday as Steve was handling Fea he noticed black specks..which popped oozing blood. All night he soaked in his water bowl so this morning off to the vet for Frontline. Likely our fault but both of them have mites..very few as none showed with wiping so we obviously caught it early.
Fauns treated as were hides etc. So all is well..I hope lol |

Thanks Bats, i'll read that..all seems fine except i'm worried about Fea..he definately has a white spec in both of his eyes..which after googlimg is most likely mite faeces.
Should I take him to the vet? I don't feel confident to treat eyes, specially as Steve went offshore yesterday for 2 weeks.
Ewww never heard of that before. Barf!
However, I'd be inclined to wait and let it shed out, unless anyone more experienced with mites thinks differently?
All the best, keep us posted. |

Posted - 30/12/2011 : 14:59:07 ok we since realised that the mites began with Slinky..so just completed the 2nd treatment. We sprayed the faun down with reptile safe disinfectant, then I held him while Katana wiped him down with a cotton wool ball dampened with 3 sprays of frontline. The only visable sign is a few black specs in his water dish which we removed for the night. |

As I understand it, these days, it's as easy to catch mites as norovirus ...both evil things are airborne; it may not even be necessary to bring in the little sods on a new snake ...rubbing shoulders with a herp keeper with mites in the supermarket can catch you mites.
If frontline doesn't work, this is the stuff everyone gives brilliant reports of - http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/callington-mite-spray-100g.html
Good luck with the little bleeders - blast them!
