i left a message on here last year about my son's royal female not eating we eventually got her eating realising that she likes to eat in the dark unlike her male counterpart, unfortunately since jan 2012 neither of them have eaten. is there something i have overlooked or dont know about

Hi :) my royal is fasting aswell and at first i got really worried but thanks to the great advice off everyone on here i now know its just his mating season, I've kept an eye on his weight and all is fine

Its the breeding/fasting season unfortunately, between August and April its quite common and normal for a Royal to fast for either a bit of this time or if they are really committed to been a pain in the bum; all of it. If your setup is all OK and nothing has changed, its probably just this.

Hi there - it's normal - from autumn to spring may be the royal mating season, when they don't eat because their minds are on finding a mate. Most people on here have royals who are fasting - I have 3 myself and a possible 4th.

I look on it as a sort of hibernation; it's normal, and they'll live on their fat and not lose much weight.

I keep offering food every 10 days, but no problem if it's refused (mind you. I'm lucky to have an assortment of colubrids who'll recycle it.)

Your little guys will restart eating in the spring.
