Posted - 15/02/2012 : 14:33:10 Hi All Well I came back to my boyfriends to sort things out with him, he has always been honest with me and told me Mims our female royal wasnt eating but we didnt worry to much as royals have a habit of going off their feeds as we all know but I hadnt actually seen her. Upon seeing her it is in my oppinion that she's not doing very well, she has the triangle shape on her and upon weighting and measuring her she is just over 2.5 ft long and weighs in at 250grames. I have not got her orrigional details at hand but she was much more rounded when we got her. I'm going to take her home with me when I go back home so I can get her into the reptile shop but just looking for oppionions at this point in time. |

Posted - 28/02/2012 : 12:45:42 Hi, good to hear she's got some food inside her - I have a corn who I had to assist several times as a tiny hatchling - and now she strikes and coils like a good 'un - you think they'll never eat by themselves, but they do.
All the best with her. |

Posted - 28/02/2012 : 10:08:21 Hi al
Sorry not updated for a while but not had access to the internet. Well Mims is doing ok but obviously is still very underweight, she has now had 3 successfull feeds but is having to be assist fed otherwise she just completly refuses to feed. She has been checked over and other than her weight issue, she is healthy. I will keep everyone updated on Mims!!! On a brighter note, my baby boy royal Merlin is now shedding on his own with no problems so it's not all doom and gloom and the other two royals are also perfectly healthy. |

I dont think it can be, if she has always eaten up to the move then has not eaten since it screams that the snake has not settled in. Due to her length she sounds either still quite young so shouldn't really be fasting below maturity or the seller has told a porkie and she is a terrible feeder (either young or older but under sized). The on paper bits may be fine (temp/humidity etc) but how was she kept before? is the set up bigger than before? Hide size? Feeding tachnique?
When you say 'regurge this one' has she regurged before? How long has it been since she last fed on her own?
Sorry its lot of questions but think of Royals as a lock, and getting them to feed is like picking that lock all the bits need to be in the right place. |

Posted - 15/02/2012 : 17:48:44 Hi and thanks, she has not fed since we got her but the person I got her from I trust completly as it's the place I have got 99% of my snakes from and he said that she was feeding well when we took her on and I trust his word. Her set up is fine and no signs of mites etc and other than her looking skinny she looks bright and cheerful so I'm not sure. I managed to assist feed her a fluff today so will see how that goes and feed her again friay, hopefully she will not regurge this one and then I can get her back on track. She is coming home with me in a few days when I go home and I will then get her down to the shop. I have spoken to my reptile guy and he reasures me that I am doing the right thing in taking her down to smaller food for a while until we get her back on track and up onto bigger feed again. I really hope she pulls through this xx |

Posted - 15/02/2012 : 15:12:29 How old is she? I would personally say she's under weight, especially if you can notice straight away that she has a more prominent triangular shape. Have you looked into what could be causing her weight loss? Might be worth to double check everything in the viv to make sure it's all sitting at the correct temperatures and give her a once over to make sure her health is all ok just to be safe because it could be something easy to sort that will help her get back on track with her feeding. Of course it may just be a normals royal fast, but it's always good to check. Also do you have records of how many feeds she has missed? What is her general feeding schedule? |

Posted - 15/02/2012 : 15:07:07 Hi, sorry to hear - yes I'm afraid she does sound underweight, judging by her triangular shape. Hopefully the shop will be able to advise you about her; it may be that they can help you with assist feeding her, depending on how long she's been fasting and how much weight she's lost. Or they may be able to take her in and get her eating again for you. All the very best with her. |
