Mites again.. last time my corn had them ( back in November )i just sprayed her with beaphar insect spray and it did the job..
reckon i could do it again for my royal? |

i just tried and he went into crazy mode, not sure im getting him out with my fingers intact. i might re spray tomorrow but take the water out this time |

Ah. Just depends whether you want to haul him out ...LOL!
Joking apart, I would, personally, as if the beaphar gets into the water and he drinks a bit, might not hurt him but still might not be so good ... |

What do the instructions say for that particular spray?
The Callingtons' spray does tell you to remove the water bowl for 24 hours - but with that spray you remove the snake, give viv a quick zap and leave for 15 mins, then return snake - and see the buggers drop off! So any residual fumes could contaminate a water bowl.
I reckon if in doubt, keep the water bowl out till tomorrow. A wild royal down a burrow isn't going to have a nice earthenware/exo terra full of water handy, after all ... |

quick question, i sprayed him with mite spray, outside his viv, should i remove his water for a while or? i sprayed this morning at like 10, hasnt been near his water yet |

cheers, hopefully they'll just die out now she's been sprayed, i only found the one on her and it crawled onto my hand but it fell off in my room somewhere.. not really a nice thought but hey ho, do they need 2 to breed or do they just lay eggs? |

Good question.
Apparently at early stages of their lives they can be airborne - so if you go to a reptile show, a shop, or even for that matter a supermarket where a mite-afflicted owner is present, the damn things can be lurking on their clothes and you could come home with them. Frightening thought.
I was once told to bake aspen substrate as it could harbour mites, especially if it came from a shop that sells reps. However, imo, yer average mite is looking for blood. It's not going to cosy up in a sealed bag of aspen with no grub. However, I may be wrong of course. In rural areas wild snakes may infect foliage/branches with mites; if gathering wild branches, make sure they're from a snake free area.
The only time I've seen mites is on my carpet python. From day one with me she was very fond of soaking in her water bowl. Naturally I gave her a white bowl, and feared the worst. But I also did some research on carpets and found that they do love to soak. However, 3 weeks later I found the dreaded black dots in her bowl ...and they squished, leaving a red stain ...
Luckily she was in quarantine and luckily my other snakes never got the dratted things.

Coincidentally 3 weeks is the time it takes for a mite to mature (and be visible - she must have had some minute ones on her maybe when I bought her ...

cheers, think i'll give beaphar a try first as thats all i have, and im poor haha.. from what i've found olive oil really messes up their shed and i dont really want to stress him out any more

Apparently it mustn't be used for snakes under 80g.
I like the Callingtons' myself - pricey but it doesn't half zap them.
