Posted - 08/11/2012 : 14:33:39 I have been looking for a incubator to fit in at least 4 clutches.
I have been offered a couple of polybox incubators does it matter what stat is used? I believe they are just the standard habistat ones on/off |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 16:04:38 I use a digital thermometer and hydro meter placed in the tub half way from front to back you will see if it drys out by the digital thermometer and hydro although its not necessary to worry about how wet it is but better to get it right as it wont condensation up as much as if your vermiculite was to wet |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:59:41 When doing your vermiculite do you just soak it and squeeze it out? Do you find it dry's out in the incubation period and you have to replace it?
What do you do about checking temperature's and humidity in each tub? |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:55:20 i use vermiculite on egg crate http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FILTER-GRID-EGG-CRATE-KOI-FISH-TANK-POND-AQUARIUM-D-/360489315459?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Garden_PondsWaterFeatures_UK&hash=item53eed66c83
i have no holes in the rub put the cling film on the top pull it tight then put the lid on

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:49:44 Do you put the eggs straight onto the vermiculite (or whatever substrate you use) or do you use some type of grating?
When you say use cling film do you use it rather than the tub lid? Do you make it air tight or have you drilled holes in the tub?
Thanks |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:41:46 i done it every week on a Sunday
mine is a beer fridge and has fans in i still aired it as i use cling film on the 9l rubs to keep the humidity high
you wont need a fan if your just going to use a polybox as you will have only one level |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:35:01 That's what I thought for a incubator. Thank you once again.
While we are talking incubators I see the fridge type incubators have fans in to spread the warm air out evenly. With a polybox I have not seen ones with fans. How often do you open these to let them breath? |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:32:40 yes bone fezza is right the only stat i use and the most consistent is the pulse thermostat for my incubator worked very well for me this year
so a pulse stat is a must i use the habistat pulse from Surrey pets |

Posted - 08/11/2012 : 15:18:51 This might be the only time I'd say use a pulse prop stat if you can, They will keep the temps far more stable which I believe is important for incubating eggs
Hopefully either Kelf or Del can give you some advice as they're real experience with cooking eggs |
