Posted - 08/07/2013 : 19:22:30 I had often wondered why eggs were incubated rather than mummy doing the business. Now I know! Hoping to breed from Ria next year or the one after. She is currently 800g and just over a year old so a way to go yet but the way she is stuffing in the big rats it wont be long! |

Posted - 08/07/2013 : 17:39:34 Is that why they must be a certain weight before breeding then, because they lose so much? |

Agree with the comments above, for me its about getting the mother feeding again to get some weight back on, My Bumblebee was 1900g, had 8 eggs and was 1150g. When i held her up she resembled a wet sock. |

im not bothered if she's a super or not and i know i brought her as a normal pastel and 99% think i got lucky last year ;)
i put eggs in the incubator to aim for the right condition they require after all these are pets and i think another 2 months of the mother not feeding is inappropriate if they dont have to

its harder to get the perfect conditions for the eggs when you do maternal incubation. you need as higher a humidity as possible, and stable temps, and you cant always get this with maternal incubation without putting the mother at risk, a risk that most breeders do not feel it is worth. there has been a few people that have used maternal incubation with success, but theres always a chance that it can go wrong |

Posted - 08/07/2013 : 11:38:09 congrats on a nice bunch of eggs!! and fingers crossed for nice odds, a couple of super pastel lesser would be nice looking at her, I would say you just got lucky last year with the odds and shes just a nice pastel as he head doesn't look blushed enough to be a super, but stranger things have happened, and like you say, this clutch will tell you hopefully |
