Posted - 23/10/2009 : 17:12:42 RE breeding kings-when I had my cali's I always kept them together as pairs-once paired up they bonded and pined if separated, certainly had problems with the other half it one died. They would be hibernated together and started mating quite quickly after the first post hibernation shed & feed. They then kept on mating periodically over a long period of time, even after the female was clearly gravid-female could stop the male feeding by lifting her tail and scenting along the floor if he showed interest in food and she was around-she could then snaffle the food with no danger of him grabbing it too. Apart from that I always fed them apart due to the obvious danger of food having 2 ends and cali's not being too discriminating! I found that they did better as pairs, were more relaxed and it saved on cage space too, babys were always kept apart and obviously you had to watch it when introducing but once they mated I never had a problem. That's how I bred them anyway and they were pets too, well used to being handled. |
