i have just got a male to go with my female next season but because of reading horror stories about 1 ending up eatin am not sure if i want to take the chance at the moment the female is 1250g and male only 580g and a whoopin size diff in lenght , i was looking at health and temperment and didnt take into count the actual nature of things . So if all goes well and i get his weight up clearly it wont be no where near hers how would i do it ??

As above, you cool (if you want to) prior to the breeding season. April is usually when most people are stopping putting the males in with the females and starting to keep fingers crossed for eggs. It doesn't mean that the male will instantly forget breeding and go back to food.

This is not the cooling period of the breeding season, that happens at the end of October early November if you choose to cool at all. Check the stickies in this forum they'll give you some great info on what you need as your reptile shop seems to have things the wrong way round.

Yes, he's a bit on the light side, some weaner rats would do him good if you can get them in him

i weighed him he has not lost any @ all, i think he is under weight for his age he is 3 and only 580g and was only fed on small mice when i got him when he starts eating he WILL i say with fingers and toes crossed go onto rats ( i hope).he is 31 inches with a nice sized middle but still ?? wat do u think ??

You could try to wait until they've eaten, however, round breeding season, a lot of adults, especially males go off food completely. I have 4 that haven't eaten yet this year.
