Posted - 23/09/2010 : 19:00:09 Hi all, Iv read quite alot of info on breding and understand yarly cycles but.... if you have had snakes from hatchlins that have never been cooled or bred, couldn't you breed them whenever you decide?? and make sure they are bred at the same time every year. Thanks pete. |

Posted - 26/09/2010 : 03:57:01 P.S. Just for added info, it is advisable to wait until the royals have reached maturity before breeding. The male must be at least a year old and over 700 grams (they'll start to release cheesy stuff if you express their sperm plugs). The female would need to be about 3 years old. People have bred females at 1200 grams but there is a high health risk to females this small. 1700 grams is advisable. |

Posted - 26/09/2010 : 03:46:50 We found out that royals can breed at any time of year in captivity, so a lot of hobbyists in the US don't bother with a cool down period. But, the thing is, royals tend to go off feed during the cooler months, therefore, breeders use that time to breed their snakes. For the health of the females, most big breeders give their females an "off-season", so they lay every other year. This tend to give bigger clutches with a much lower chance at slugs. But, this is second-hand info since I don't personally know a big breeder.
