Ok, so it's not been hard to get the change in care under my belt from my corns to my royal. I read The Ball Python Manual and it's full of handy things to know, but nothing really new. What really intrigued me was when they started explaining the genetics of morphs and traits, and the breaking down of the genes.
I'm still getting my head around that side of things, so my question is:

What books would you recommend for understanding Royal python genetics, and breeding behind morphs ???

I want to be able to confidently understand the Heterozygous, Homozygous, Dominant, Co-Dominant and everything else that comes with this knowledge side of things.
Thanks
:)

Any body read: Ball Pythons: The History, Natural History, Care, and Breeding ???
Has brilliant reviews, but none mention how in depth the genetics side of the breeding is

I've tried to type my way of understanding the genetics in many many posts but I've never been able to do it. I've sat typing in this box for about 15 minutes now and still can't explain how I work out the genetics. I use numbers to reach certain values and, screw it I can't explain it lol

Yeh I've fiddled with it before and have got it in my favourites! something so easy is so invaluable!! I also wanted to get my head around how the hatchlings carry genes from their parents, and how it 'skips' a generation, (I think, If I'm thinking about it in the right way!!)
So if a gene is held visually in the parent, carried by the hatchling, and then visually seen in the hatchlings clutch. Or vice versa.
It's getting my head around the how the whole dominance thing works!!!

I never learnt much from books, a simple understanding of the genetics can be achieved just by remembering your favourite morphs and what they are and how they are made.
I spent hours playing with the Genetics Wizard at world of ball pythons, they probably have alot of tutorials and stuff as well :)
