I have a simple question for you. A reduced pattern royal, is it a dom, co-dom, or a recessive gene? I've looked online and there seem to be various thoughts, some say dom and others say recessive. Looking at the genetic wizard there doesn't seem to be an option for a reduced pattern, so further research was done and people seem to be calling them 'banded' which again has no clear answer on the dominance of the gene. So what do you guys think?

Posted - 04/10/2012 : 07:22:20 From what I have been able to gather, there is actually a genetic "reduced pattern" out there. Many of the reduced pattern Royals that I've come across have had a very "banded" appearance:
Akenahten
Astrid (my nephew's female)
We plan to do some trial breeding with Astrid and Aken when Astrid reaches breeding size/age. I, too, would be curious to know if anyone else has any input on the reduced patterns. :) |
