Hope somebody can help me out with this one. I am trying to get a RUB set up for my new snakey and can't get the 10 deg F gradient across it from hot to cold. The hot end is heating up to where I want it, around 87-89 F, but the cold end won't rise above 71 F. Any ideas.Would a heatmat that goes half way across the floor surface make it happen or is it something stupid like I need to block some of the air holes at the cold end? Please help cos it's driving me more insane than I am already. |

I would move the heat mat from 1/3 to 1/2 of the RUB.
any chance of a couple of pics of your set up... |

Thought so. I'll go get the next size up.

I'll take some this evening. It's a 45l underbed storage box. Quarantine RUB for the new Dum. |

That's the silly thing about it. It's on a deep shelf about halfway up the wall in the lounge. It's a small 7 watt Habistat one. I've rotated the mat 90 degrees so that it's length is running along the RUB rather than across it and the cool end temp is climbing now. I'll go get the next size up, 14 watt and twice the size, tomorrow or tuesday. If that still doesn't work then I'll post some pics. Cheers Dazb

oooh, looking forward to Dummie heaven, Paul??
from experience with Marilyn and Dumbo your cool end doesn't want to be much cooler, only about 5*C, than the warm end of about 30-31*C. a heatmat should be fine for your little Dum but when they're bigger something like a ceramic is better. Marilyn's due a house move shortly, into a 4ft viv, my current dilemma is reptile radiator or ceramic? |
