I decided to move Sid onto a size up of rats the other day, so I chose large weaners, just because the small weaners they had left were tiny. I bought two, just to see how they went down, because they looked huge.
My question is, does anyone ever find that the legs on the rats cause problems? Namely the front two? Because I fed him one, all as normal, he struck and got the head down fine, however he got stuck at the legs, with one in each corner of his mouth.
Eventually he gave up, so I chucked the rat and left it til the next day. Last night I 'removed' (pair of pliers lol) the legs off the rat before I defrosted it, and it went down fine.
So has anyone else had this problem?
I don't want to get into the habit of removing the legs everytime, but I don't want to waste £1.50 a time rats, or cause him the stress of struggling to eat it tbh.
Long post, but I always like a good story lol. |

Perhaps it was just slightly too big for him. Mine do sometimes sit there with the legs hanging out, but then squeeze it down. |

Well the thing is, the one that I removed the legs from he got down fine, infact it barely left a bulge once he'd got it past his neck. |

P has struggled on a couple of occasions, but i left him to it, just kept an eye on him that he did not get into trouble or anything, though god knows what i would have done if he had.
The only other time he has struggled is when he has eaten it at a funny angle... |

I normally give my rats a spot of physio to loosen their shoulders and hips before I start the puppet show . |

So you break them then? lol.
I just removed them completely, it was ok with like pinkies, because the bones aren't proper bones yet but now with proper rats it's not as easy... |

Roll the rat between your hands like you would if you were making something into a saussage shape. Helps it go down |

More a case of hyper-extend them or just out and out dislocate them. Don't want to lose any of the ratty goodness |
