i had a king that came with that stuff once, and it stunk...was awful,

it not being cleaned out very often was not good, but i would imagine that it could harbour germs...and would need to be cleaned regular.

maybe someone on here does use it, but my own preference is either Aspen or kitchen roll/newspaper

Seriously thought about it at one point. As Anne says, it would need washing, so you would want 2 pieces per viv so that you can have one in whilst cleaning the other.

I think (for good quality stuff) it was going to cost about £30 per piece. It doesn't have any absorbency, so will not soak up urine like other substrates would.

Same as BE and Daz. I was very tempted to use it but the cheaper stuff is very abrasive.

I looked at that but one sheet wont cover a 3' viv.

Edit - Ahh, found the other sizes. I will have another look into it

im starting to go off aspen as it always end up all over the carpet,it's just that they love burrowing through it and if they swollow any it's easily digestable.Plus i have a a 20kg bag of it so wont be changing any time soon lol

I agree lee. I would rather use something I can wash with the royal. They arnt a burrowing species so wont miss out. It always goes everywhere.

would royals burrow if they had the opportunity though? they are mainly terrestrial, and i've heard putting deep substrate in so they can burrow sometimes helps stubborn feeders...............

I am totally against the stuff!!!!

Nothing to do with reps though. They used to make us play football and hockey on the stuff when I was at school and it hurt .

I have access to a large amount of it than I can cut to size. planning to put newspaper or paper towel under it to soak up the wet stuff. thought it would be convenient to left out and rinse of and disinfect. and in the long run would safe a few quid from not having to buy pack of bark or shavings etc. also it looks nice and as the royal is a snake that originally comes from grass lands it might make it feel more homely. LOL

again, my own personal opinion, is i would not use it because of the bacteria build up which i would imagine would not take long.....and also it gets warm far quicker than aspen or newspaper and for it the newspaper to soak up anything the astro turf would surely have to have holes in it wouldnt it?
