I bought a royal python 2 months ago. She was born at the end of 2006.Eating habits brilliant. However I get the impression her previous owners did not handle her often. Therefore when I am handling her she continues to strick. I do believe there is an improvement since I bought her as she is not stricking as often and when handling her she seems to explore more. Still is nervous. Can anyone provide me with any advice on hand to make her more tame and less stressed when Im handling her. Much appreciated. Debs x |

Hello Deborah and welcome . I have an adult corn that I got in november that came to me from very similar circumstances. We should be able to help you out with this. Need to ask you a few questions first though.
1) How often is the royal feeding and what size prey? 2) What are the temperatures in the viv? 3) Have you got some pictures of the viv layout and can you post them?
Sometimes it can be the simplest of things that can trigger this kind of nervous behaviour in a reptile. As I say we should be able to help you out . |

Hi and welcome . I agree with Paul. Also how often are you attempting to handle her? |

Hi Deborah and welcome I'm sure there be some one here that will have just the solution to your problem.
One question I have is does your viv open from the front or the top? a hand coming in from a top opening viv can seem a lot more of a treat to the snake.
also the previous owner may not have handled much and hand only went in at feeding time and the snake could then be associating hands with food. |
