Hi, I have read that an uth is ok for baby royals but heat lamps are better for adults. Is it ok to just use a heat lamp or ceramic heater from the start and if so what size heat lamp would i need for a two foot viv.

The problem is that you may stress a baby Royal out by putting it straight into a viv, which is why most people will start them off in a RUB or something on a heat mat. Once in a viv then yes a heat lamp is best.

what is it like for temps? does it hold them as good as ceramics?

do you get much heat loss through the roof of the viv?

I thought they were more expensive than that, or was I thinking of AHS?

ok i'll try to answer everyone's questions.....
WS - great for temps, way better than ceramic, very little heat-loss above compared to a ceramic
BE - not as expensive as AHS but AHS have a built-in stat
PB - mounted on the viv ceiling but you need to be aware of how tall your viv is and possibly use spacers for a tall viv

oh, and Dave does guards for them too

As a new Royal owner viv heating has given me more headaches than anything else. I refuse to go been back to the shop where i got my Royal from as the starter kit was totally useless. However i`ve since been to 3 other rep shops and non of them have recommended ceramics, 2 said the heat mat in a viv would be fine, but the best shop ReptileWorld in Plymouth actually recommended a reptile radiator as i still have concerns especially as i know my house can be much colder in the winter. So i`ll be getting one before the end of summer.

Royals owned "lots"
