it will be far easier for you to get the temps right once its in a viv.

i dont like heat mats for royals,. temps can fluctuate to much.

Once i can find one i am putting Kaz in a viv on a ceramic

I suppose that depends more on the stat than the mat.

yep BE your right, it is the temp stat that causes it.

i would not use heat mats with my corns either if i could get away with it, none of mine use them.

On a PP stat they are much more consistent.

see now i`m the other way round i prefer heat mats to bulbs as i dont trust em.. but seeing as i have never tried lamps then i cant really say atm and as me corn and the soon to be python hopefully are both in fauns, i`m sticking with heat mats till me vivs are built. But been checking temps all week corns temp is up to 29-30 degrees c, empty tank is now settling between 30-33 degrees c. So now all need to do is finish decking it out water bowl and plants n i`m sorted.

Heat mats are fine for smaller bodied snakes like Corns and young Royals, but as they get bigger and heavier bodied snakes you can get thermal blocking with mats. Whereby a snake will lie on the mat and it will just get hotter and hotter and can cause burning.

now me corn seems more than happy to spend her days in her warm hide, mats not touching bottom of tank has the air space, but shall defo consider heat lamp once i have built vivs. Might even push the boat out n do a gp n buy repti rad.. sounds safest option.
