I have just read on another forum that it is not suitable to keep royal pythons in RUB's with heat mats, unless the room is heated because of the ambient air temps. Is this true? because i was under the impression that it would be ok to keep them like this.Im really confused now
Heatmats don't really raise the ambient air temperature which is why they're not suitable for adult royals. A small royal will be fine in a RUB with a thermostatted heatmat in a room at normal room temperature. I wouldn't try keeping it in your shed though!
It's because they're stocky. Heavy snakes like pythons and boas prefer warm air to a mat because the heat's all around them. They're OK on a mat when they're little though.
