Right i am on the trail of a female royal..
she is already at breeding weight....has never been bred from
but there is a problem...
she only eats chicks..
wont touch rats and will occasionally eat a mouse..
how hard would it be to get her off chicks?
and if i did take her and could not get her off them, would she suffer health wise from just eating these?
i would think they are not very nutritious, but need enlightening..
maybe a multi might do the trick..

| i have heard chicks are very addictive so be weary of mood swings and come downs lol. as for the nutrition i think they have a high% of fat maybe you could inject more into them but i dont know how lol |

i dont know...
i suppose i could if all else failed go live...but i have to get her first...

remember...even offering live may not work...live is not always the answer. imagine the size of prey needed or the amount of smaller prey needed to sustain a breeding weight female.
If it was me i would slowly convert her to rats, but it could take a long time. |

| I think it would be a project snake rather than a breeder...if she doesnt swap or takes a long time she may not be ready for breeding in jan... |

from what i can gather, she stopped feeding last year and was reintroduced using chicks, but the owner has not got her back onto rats..
i might not take her yet....but i am thinking multis instead and see if that might work..but it is all ifs and buts right now cos i have not heard back from him yet...

| I agree with Daz, even if you do get the snake I would want it eating rats for a few months to make sure it was in good shape (as well as quarentine). |

A good method for chick eaters is skin a chick and wrap it round a rat, this way it looks and smells like a chick so they take it.
I have had some that would only take chicks and they even strike feed on them this way.

Ok, i am going to throw this open for discussion when i come back online later..i am not sure what to do, and this is what i just sent Piers so posting here to
i have a choice of two female royals aged 30 months i am supposed to be picking them up on Thursday... but the more i am learning the more i am not sure cos the bloke just said to me, if you feed them up they will make breeding weight next year...surely that would be the wrong thing to do? i mean feeding them up...
i just asked him weights..
also this is the other one..
female who currently will only eat chicks, she is 4 years old never been bred from..
what would you do?
