Hi all, discovered this site while searching for lighting info for my babies. I have owned snakes now for 7-8yrs, started with a check garter snake and have owned a corn, bull snake, Royal python and a King snake. Currently i have 2 Royals.
Currently i have them housed in 2 vivs
I am in the process of building this to house them both,
What do you think?
Oh and sorry for the long first post lol |

Thanks for the welcome guys
Paulusworm - The last pic is my Eastern King, a great feeder and active snake. I only had the pleasure of owning this snake for a few months. He was 'rescued', you could say. The previous owner housed him for several months in an enclosed fish tank with a bare incandescant bulb, resulting in a lot of burns across the full lenght of his body. A great snake and lots of pleasure for the time i owned him.
Unfortunately i do not have pics of the bull, another nice but aggressive snake, Big diamond head and puffed up and made like a Rattlesnake noise with its throat when it got spooked, great to see but keep out the way lol. Heres a pic from google
dazb Thanks, yeah they will both be housed together, they have been introduced a few times together on the floor and quite happily ignore each other lol. My only concern is the size differnce between the two, one being 7-9mnth older.

Both males, they have not been probed so could still surprise me. Iirc males one 'spike', females two? The smaller of the two was the second acquired and we had hoped it would be female. So they are going in together and the spare vivs used for cleaning times and hopefully purchasing a female in the future. |

If you've owned snakes for 7-8 years then I'm sure you're aware of the risks of housing snakes together, especially of a different size and even more so with unsexed immature snakes. Is there a reason you've chosen this route? |

Yeah i,m aware, but by no means knowladgeable on the subject, i have seen it with plenty corns. I just think a couple of snakes look good together. I will be taking precautions and have been introducing them over a few weeks now. I in no way want to lose any of these snakes and if there is the slightest sign of this happening they will be back into seperate vivs. My King on the other hand would eat any snake that came within striking distance. It is something i would like to try and appreciate any advice or comments. |

the main points are;
passing dieseaes, such as mites etc to each other, they could put each other of their food, how do you know which one has pooped or regurged, if the are the opposite sexes, would the female get pregnant too early and become egg bound and probably die. i have read that people have successfully bred males at 400g. would 2 males become territorial (not sure on this on myself with royals)
all of the above are points to be considered. alot of people do house snakes in pairs with no problems and alot of people have housed snakes together and encounted problems. it is a topic with lots of different opions both for and against.
It is all about personal choice...

i'm not saying viv sharing is outright wrong, i cohabit my 1.1 adult corns and 0.2 juvenile corns, however, there's no way on earth i'd cohabit 2 kings........... on the other hand, both of Pauline's Royals were quite evenly matched in age, size and weight and a 1.1 pair................ |

I can see why people cohabit, and the aesthetics of it are great, but I can imagine that horrible feeling in my stomache when I go to check on them and there is only one. That being said, the risk is quite small (especially with adults), but I personaly wouldnt take it. Each to their own. |
