Hi all.
I am thinking of getting Sherman chipped at the vets. I would be interested to hear what you guys think.

Same reason that I had my old German Shepherd done. Being the escape artists that they are just makes it easier to be reunited in the event of escape or theft. I have heard various opinions voiced about getting it done. Some swear by it others think it's a waste of time. Just interested what the general opinion is.

You mean like a dog or a cat? Is that even possible? If its possible i wouldnt tdo it. The pain could really stress your snake out. A dog/cats spine stays fairly staright so the chip isnt squashed. A snakes spine moves sideways so anything in the snake is squashed. Wouldnt this cause alot of pain for the snake as it moved? Just make sure you always close the viv/RUB. Easy solution.

Never heard of any problems, but also have never heard of them being used after a snake has been lost.

I'll phone the vets on monday and get them to explain exactly how they do it. RSPCA were saying that it depends on species, size, etc but it'll be interesting to see what a specialist reptile vet thinks. I'll post what he says on here once I've found out.

Trust me, the RSPCA know/care nothing about reptiles.

some species such as Dumerils boas have to be microchipped, i think they're usually done when they're about a year old. If it's not necessary i personally wouldn't put a snake through it, most lost snakes stay somewhere in the house so are unlikely to be picked up by joe public or the RSPCA and scanned for a chip. Having said that there's always exceptions

I regularly hear the screams of dogs and cats being microchipped. I'd like to have my dog done but he would probably kill the vet that did it. I've seen a lot of horses done too, depending on the vet, it can be an utter blood bath!

Why do they have to be GP, they're not DWA?

the Dumerils should have CITES paperwork too (see I have been doing my homework)
I think it's to prove they're CB not WC as they're a protected species.

Didn't realise they were protected. You ought to get some and breed them

I don't think I'd chip my Evra- but chipping Lewy might be a good idea for when he goes out on stag dos and gets bladdered
