Do any of you keep a first aid kit for your snakes in case anything happens?
If so what have you got in there...?
Just thinking it might be a good idea to keep one handy... |

well apart from reptoboost, shed aid and something to eliminate mites, is there any kind of medical problem a royal could have that doesnt involve going to the vets anyway? |

Hard pushed to get baytril without getting it from the vet surely?
Worming tablets will only need to be once in a blue moon surely? |

Tamodine is a mild form of Iodine I think. Its used as an antiseptic/antibactieral/antifungal for wounds. |

So if it was for wounds, could you use alternatives for wounds like honey in small doses? honey is magical for wounds and heals them very quickly... |

yes blundey - Baytril is an antibiotic that should be ONLY prescribed by a vet yes BE - Tamodine is an iodine-based wound cleaner/antiseptic available without prescription
I keep a supply on Tamodine in, in case of emergencies. I also have Baytril left over that's still in date (but only just!!)
If enough people were interested i could price up some Tamodine, it comes in 100ml bottles but you'd be hard puched to use up 100ml!!! so i could get a bottle and decant 20mls for people to have in just in case, if people were interested? |

GP , what about honey? it works on humans dogs and cats....if the animals dont lick it off. it is a very very quick healer...
I am not talking globs of it, just maybe small amounts to any cuts...though i would hope to not ever use it myself.. |

no, tamodine-e is a disinfectant, tamodine (without the '-e') is different |

i've no idea Anne, sorry i've often thought about aloe vera as well but i'm not aware of any trials or data on their safety in relation to treating reptiles |

Ok thanks Gp, dont suppose it is something they would try is it...what effect would it have on a snake if something like the natural sugars in honey were to go into there system, bare in mind this would be small amounts if it were to be used?

In my snake first aid kit:
1.) Provent-A-Mite 2.) Shed-Ease 3.) Neosporin without pain killer
All my pets including the snakes go to the vet once a year. The snakes get a fecal, deworming, and some preventative stuff (can't remember the name of the thing). It's just part of the yearly service my reptile vet provides. |
