Can an 100w infra red bulb be run off a normal stat or does it need to be on a dimmer?

If its a dimmer has anyone got one they are selling?

Bulbs that emit light need to be on a dimmer. If run on a normal (mat) stat, it will just be on..off..on..off

They say that about UV tubes, I have never heard it about infrared, just that the bulbs go on/off and then blow quickly.

There was a guy called eco-tonto on the dark side selling some habistat 600w dimmers for like £27.50 but I'm not sure if he still has any.

I believe that it appears to be like dusk to them, they struggle to see it but there is some light there.

ok, thanks Daz and 'BE.

What about belly heat without a mat on this type of mat?

Daz did you sort out the heat transfer between vivs?

- want to put this viv above Peanut but am worried about heat transfer.

I usually have a flat rock or slate under the bulb that warms up nicely, but I don't think its imperative to have belly heat.

I have my large ET hide directly underneath my ceramic that i use as a basking spot, its quite flat and large so it is ok.

The heat transfer is not affecting my royals. Still there but i will not let it beat me...
