I'm looking to work on a strict template so that members can use it to review/do a write up on their favourite reptile shop or shops. The strict template will have to be in place to keep the modgods happy, keep the forum free from any liability issues etc and will have to include permission from the owner of the shop so anyone looking to take part would have to ask their permission. I also think it would be nice for them to also answer a few questions on their favourite animal, the most unusual animal etc, we all know that a big part of why we like the shops we do are because of the people. pictures would be nice too if they agreed to it.
This is at the 'see what people think' stage guage opinion and who would be interested in doing something with it so let fly your ideas and lets see what we can come up with. |

What about equipment reviews to? We all buy alot of gear,would be nice to have a review bit for all.People like exo terra don't care about bad reviews and its below them to sue etc etc.Where as a little shop it's not.
Would you only end up with just good reviews?Can't see anyone giving you permission to write a bad review.I can think of plenty of crap shops with mites everywhere and unclean vivs.
There was a forum last week that was threatened and closed down,cuz it said afew bad things about said shop in a review.

If your feedback is positve you dont need the owners peprmission im pretty sure they would welcome positive feedback.
Boomslang has been a forum rule for as long as i can remember that naming and shaming on this forum is taboo due to what you have posted last ;) |

The idea been that its a shop you like and would like to give a positive write up. I know that its not strictly a requirement to get permission to write positive things about a shop but just as a courtesy to them so they are aware that it is happening and also they might be happy to participate in a brief Q&A session and allow photos as well. To keep in line with forum rules then it would have to follow the rule of if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
I'm sure everyone has a shop that they like to go to and like the staff and would like to sing their praises, those that dont might just discover somewhere on their doorstep they didn't even know about. |

Yeah i know that,but it only takes afew people to post something under a review,or to make their own review at like 3am.And the shop see it. |

| It is a forum rule/request though to not name and shame and also any posts of that nature are removed or censored by the mod/admin team. As a public forum there is no way to 100% ensure that trolling doesn't occur, its down to the members of the forum to respect the rules the mods are there to make sure any posts that break the rules are removed and I think I'm right in saying they also dish out warnings, suspensions and bans if required for repeat offenders. That is seen as reasonable preventative measures against naming and shaming. Failing that every post would have to be approved before being made public and Kelf would just crack up if that was one of his duties. |

| I dont see why not but again you couldn't just trash something so positive reviews of good products would have to be the way to go. That doesn't mean you couldn't point out negative things that require customising etc to fit the requirements of us snakey people. For example i like the Exo terra thermometers for ease of reading and operation but they do require their batteries changing a lot and also taking out and popping back in when they freeze up. |

Yeah thats my point,can even review plants etc,which go best in planted vivs.
Even komodo hides,where most sites don't even list the sizes of them.LED lighting,theres tons of stuff you can do good reviews on. |

If we were to make this a Possitive-only review thing then I can see it working. People can mention their good experiences with either a shop or a certain product. Some others might want to join in and also mention that shop/product and so on. In the end we'd all have a better idea about where and what was a best choice due to a few good mentions by different people and anything not mentioned by anyone can either be assumed to be crap or still under review.
People could vollentier to review things if they want and then post their response?
Maybe we could have a strict rule whereby if something is under review and is found to be pretty crap for whatever reason, and people are waiting to hear about said review then the person(s) reviewing should only be alowed to put a cross (for instance). Nothing more. That way there's nothing being said. No-one is accusing anyone of anything or saying anything negitive at all. It's just a cross.
Any words said, even just one, and the post will be deleted. And anyone who puts up a negitive review or post about anyone/anything will also have their post removed. Does that sound fair enough?
I can see this working and I think it's a good idea. I'm sure we've all wondered about a shop or a product and not wanted to fork out or drive a million miles in case it's no good. At least we'd know where to go and who to go to : )

| To keep it from been a free for all bombardment of opinion the write up (dropping the term review ) will be in a set format (I'm working on it) and will be a closed/locked thread, it will be an expression of the authors views and experiences of the shop they like to go to hopefully with a few pictures. If nobody likes a shop then there wont be a write up on it but it does not mean its a bad shop its just purely not visited by members of the forum. Over time this will build a reference of shops we like with a bit of information why we like them. |

| what about a sponsors area? worked quite well on the marine animal forum I was on - give's the shops a place to advertise their best stock too :P |

Isnt having a review page that requires the shops permission and positive only rendered pointless?
Edit* for instance the reptile room is my favourite place to visit but there are things that are not great which is something that should be included.
I am a big believer that reviews are there to help people make good decisions and/or purchases based on others experiences |

Yeah i agree,If said shop is great.But you have to think to much about what you write or leave out...ie health and safety related,or to many animals per cage etc etc.Then it's best not to bother with a review.
If however its something like...Poor stock lvls of basking bulbs etc.or they don't sell water bowls.Would that be acceptable to write? |

Oh ok then, I suppose so long as your sticking to facts then whatever you write shouldnt be a problem. where as saying "the snakes never have water" could be disputed unless you are there all day every day.
and of course a statement should be made to the effect of "the opinions expressed are the sole opinions of the author and not TRP its moderators or Admin team" |

doesn't really matter if this is on it or not, we provide the forum for opinions and in doing so are responsible for the content of these forums, utlimately whether or not the caveat is that the owners are still liable for what is added to the forums. |

| Scrap the term review, its confusing things I think. This is an opportunity for everyone to write about a shop they like in a set format so that it is clear and uniform to all the other write ups that people do. A library of positivity to show off to the world the great shops we all frequent. Due to the liability issues there wont be any negativity in this, whether true or otherwise, as my Mammy taught me, if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. This is to protect the forum and not a form of censorship. |
