So how do you decide which animals to buy? I think it's a safe assumption we're all terribly addicted to getting new reptiles and inverts and such and I'm sure like me you all have lists as long as the road of animals you'd like to have, obviously we can't have them all so how do you shortlist it?
Personally I'm rather weak willed I tend to just pick up whatever I want with the "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it" attitude about filling up all my space.
Although there are a few special animals on my list that are guaranteed room at some point :) Mostly the green tree python and the monocled cobra! :D |

Well, it's a very hard thing to do, chose your pets. It takes years of practice... I know 'cause I'm twenty four and still haven't got the hang of it! X )
On my list, for instance, are Animals like a Horse, Goats, Chickens... a pair of Tapir. And for now those particualar Animals are off the list weater I like it or not 'cause I haven't got the space and can't make it either. So that narrows it down a bit.
Next are Animals like a Parrot. I'd love a Parrot but I know it wouldn't be a good idea 'cause Parrots like Macaws need loads of attention and get very jelous and need constant stimulation. And with my other pets that wouldn't be very posable. A pair of Parrots, like Love Birds maybe, would be a better option but with a Cat in the house I'm not sure they'd be happy and I'm not about to lock them in a cage all their lives. Any Parrot of mine would have free roam of the house at least and right now, again, that's not possable. So, no Birds for me either.
So we've narrowed it down a bit already by excluding the Animals that need tons of space, need too much attention and/or that could get eaten by my other pets.
But seriously though, in the past I've made a list. I've put down all the pets I'd like and then put down the good and and bad points about them, compaired and narrowed it down from there. Then I used to be able to go visit said Animals (before my phobia set in), either in petshops or whereever, and handle them, get to know them etc. In the end there's always one that just clicks for me. It might take a while but it always seems to work out by its-self.
Plus I think a lot of the time it's the new Animal that picks you. Some won't seem to be bothered by you and then one day, just as your about to go mad with impatience, you'll find one that loves you and wants to be your new best friend and that's that. You've found your new pet : )
It's often been the case for me. I spend forever reserching and then looking and looking and looking and then in the end there's always that special one that finds you instead : ) |

if they are reasonably priced then thats on hurdle passed. like cresties, ash's geckos, gargoyles. all on my wish list. |

My mother has had tons of parrots,And they really do need tons of attention.Id never buy one,unless i had a bird aviary outside.

I don't really think about price,I can think of tons of cheaper things id rather have.Then a 10k royal morph :) I like things that you can see in the day,Where you can be creative with their housing.Look at some of the frog vivariums,the frogs have only cost them like £30,Yet the vivarium thousands.
I spend hours making new cuttings and stuff.Just another layer to keeping whatever. |

I'm pretty much the same way as Kelf I see there for I want lol although these days it's more to do with how much the wife will let me have    |

I was never a fan either untill I saw some lovely dart frog set ups and they really changed my mind, and after reading two articles about the Amazon Milk Frog, and how to set up a bio active terrarium in the latest episode of PRK. They are seriously on my wish list although I think it'll cost me landscaping the back garden, either that or a divorce   |

Most of my purchases have come after much research, debate and decision. The only exception was the first royal, that kinda happened in a blur. Something triggered in my head at the beginning of the week (a YouTube vid or something while I was looking for something else unrelated) by the end of the week I'd rehomed Rigel
My morphs were chosen from a combination of what I liked the look of and what I wanted to produce, frostbites and savannahs
The only thing left on my list is an emerald tree boa. Annoyingly CB animals are proving harder to find than rocking horse poop! There seem to be far more CB chondros available so I mite cut my teeth on those first.
I'm starting to get a little too interested in other Morelia after listening to http://m.blogtalkradio.com/moreliapythonradio so I'm hoping carpet fever doesn't get the better of me

I got earthworms,woodlouse and all kinds of bugs breeding and living in mine lol.

Yeah i kept lizards alot longer then snakes.My first was my corn,which was an impulse buy.Plus the guy said it's a good starter snake etc etc hehe.

I don't really get to choose. Hubby and the Kids get to pick all ours!
I did get to help decide on our locality Boa. Hubby wanted a Hog Island, until he saw the Honduran! I liked him but Hubby still made the final decision though.
I love them all regardless, but it would be nice to have the choice. Maybe one day? |

I have a very long list of what I want, each purchase depends on what I see and how much it is at the time, and if i can win the gf over.
I have a new pet on the way 25th of the month the next addition will be in its new home ;)
