Thought i'd post here for opinions as it's a lot more flame proof than RFUK cat section!

Basically last night a cat was meowing its head off in the downstairs garden (belongs to the pub next door, used as a yard/dumping ground for their old car LOL). At first i thought it was just being a cheeky sod after food from everyone. Then i noticed it was walking a little odd, so i popped round to the gate to the yard and coaxed the cat out. Seemed ok, checked for leg injuries etc, decided it's just trying it's luck for food! I've got nothing in for a cat (i'd just finished a pack of ham lol)

Later that night the meowing started again, but this time the cat was cowering under the car and sounding more and more distressed. My neighbour downstairs (a cat owner herself) heard, and gave a bowl of food - poor thing ate a huge bowl like there was no tomorrow. I was on the fence on whether to bring her/him in the first time but my neighbour knows better and thought we should defo bring her in for the night - but agreed she can't stay at her flat as her big tom cat was not happy!

Poor cat walks like a drunk, really wobbly - and is very needy and sad - not typical outdoor cat behaviour surely.

We took her to the vet this morning to check her over, the vet things she's been trapped somewhere for a while and has finally got out, the funny walk etc could be because she's mal-nourished - she's not skin and bone but a pampered indoor cat would quite distressed and weak from lack of food pretty quick i imagine.

No microchip, no collar.

I've posted found ads everywhere online, tonight when i get in, we're putting posters up and visiting local vets. Poor thing doesn't want to go outside but you can see she wants to go home. But i couldn't have left her outside in that state surely? Plus we're not really in the best position to have a cat right now :S bit skint and holiday in a week... i hope the owners come through. The local shelters are full up according to the vet, especially the no kill ones :(

She (or could be a he i honestly don't know!!) is pretty small but it's hard to tell her age - i think she's just a small cat rather than very young. She's very sweet until she decides to nibble your feet in the night (ouch!)

We're in Peckham Rye (SE15 - London) - so if you know anyone missing a small black and white cat let me know. Hopefully we've done the right thing and her owners can be traced.

Aw Poor little thing! I really hope you can find the owners soon!

Well done you for taking it in! I dread to think how the poor thing could have continued to suffer if you hadn't! :(

When you said she (looks like a she to me, but it's just a guess) was walking like that I thought you were going to say she'd been poisoned with Slug pellets or something : /

Lucky pusscat : )

I found a black tom that had been hit by a car. He was in such a state he couldn't control his body. He'd broke his jaw and I think he might have done something else, maybe fractured his skull. I took him home after watching a car just drive past him...
The RSPCA came for him in the end. Couldn't find his owners. There's me with my half sis knocking on doors for me at half eight on a Sunday morning asking if they've lost a cat. But no-one was owning up so I had no choice in the end. He needed help fast.
I put posters up everywhere and my half sis put some through doors and I put some up in the town centre etc.
I never did hear what happened to him, but I hope he was OK and is now in a nice warm house somewhere.

If all else fails the RSPCA will take her. I know they're not the best choice, but they will look after her at least.

Either that or you could suddenly decide you want a cat : )

But either way, good for you for taking her in. She looks happy in that photo : )

(if you want to check his/her sex then you can look for a 'ring' at the back end. Most Toms have an obvious 'ring' around their pee pee hole. Queens don't. You could also check for balls, but they can be suprizingly small in cats if they're there, so you'd have to feel for them rather than just look)

Just me and my zoo.

Just a thought but what about Battersea Dog and Cat home? They aren't far from you and they rarely turn away animals. Also they have a no destroy policy unless it is deemed medically necessary.

Might be worth giving them a ring, the worst they can say is no?

The vet's told me Battersea are up to their eyes with kittens as it is kitten season (i have emailed them so that she is on their books though in case their owners contact them)... I'm going to ring Celia Hammond later as they are more local and a smaller operation.

I'd never let the RSPCA get their mits on her. I'll pay her vets bills myself before they have her and put her down. I know there are a few good people working for/with the RSPCA but I wont take that chance. Once i sign her over to them I'd never know what would happen to her, very likely she'd be put down if not rehomed/re-united.

had a look at her bum, i'm 99% sure she's a girl :) she's very ladylike anyway lol

We are planning to rescue a cat, but weren't planning on it til next year, but what will be, will be as they say! My preference is to find her owners though. She content enough but there's just a very distant look in her eyes like she's missing home :(

I understand what you mean about the RSPCA. I wouldn't have given him over to them if I could have afforded his treatment myself. I still feel bad that couldn't.

Yeah, she does look girly-like to me just from the photo. Her face is girl-like. Not bullish like toms are.

No luck yet with finding her owners?

Well, keep up updated : )

yeah know what you mean, very delicate face - toms do seem more rounded in the face - she does seem very girly!

Still no news yet :(

wish i could agree, she's pining for someone - she's used to constant company no people who are out at work all day. I don't feel like we are the best owners for her, i really wish we could find them. They could be on holiday for all i know and some berk who's popping in to feed etc hasn't realised she's got out.
